influenced by counting down our picks
for the top 10 influential youtube way
for this list we’re looking at those
brands that have made YouTube the space
it is today however we’ve decided to
exclude ourselves because well did it be
pretty douchey to put ourselves on the
list but we are going to acknowledge a
few others as the runners up here we go
number 10 rhett and Link good good
mythical medical mythical mythical
mythical morning built by internet
Tanner’s and best friends rhett
mclaughlin and charles link neal this
brand has been essential viewing on
youtube since its earliest days the pair
perfected the viral video format
basically before viral videos were a
thing by creating funny low-budget
commercials that really caught on with
viewers she pitches even forward chippie
chippie delivered ten minutes to go 14
artists you beat myself mr. brand
eventually expanded to include their
most popular show good mythical morning
which airs weekdays and features rhett
and Link answering tough questions like
will it deep fry updating their YouTube
audience the mythical beasts on the
world’s craziest hotel rooms and in
general just being big goose and I told
you you’re awesome look at your hat you
could be anybody let’s be clear rhett
and Link is not an up-and-coming YouTube
brand with a combined total of ten
million subs and after having been named
one of Business Insider’s top 25 most
creative people in advertising in 2012
these guys have officially arrived I
hate whoever’s idea this was Oh number
nine dude perfect dude perfect consists
of buddies and college roommates at
Texas A&M University Kobe Cory Garrett
Cody and Tyler these crazy guys are
known for their ridiculous trick shots
and appearances on just about every
major talk show you can think of
and these guys love all-out stunt Wars
challenges trick shots insane athletic
competitions and more and the
good-natured rivalry between them all
makes you feel like you’re just another
dude perfect why has this YouTube brand
been enormously successful well it
probably is a little something to do
with their marketing collaborations with
country singers athletes and more
basically everybody just wants to be
this group’s best friend number eight
Fred Hey and its really nice out so I
think I’m gonna go swimming later
created by lucas cruikshank of Columbus
Nebraska the Fred brand follows the
exploits of the perpetual six-year-old
character as he deals with his anger
issues and having a drug-addicted
prostitute mom among other things my mom
um she went out with some friends to a
halloween party and she left me home
alone and she said I can’t read the
house this brand was so popular in 2009
it became the first youtube channel to
reach a million subs with his
high-pitched voice and interesting
concept fred has proven to be a
polarizing figure in the YouTube
community but love him or hate him he
has spawned albums merch a trilogy of
movies and more no you gotta get off oh
it has now become a channel for kids by
kids meaning that most of the content
features kids asking questions giving
advice appearing in skits and more it’s
pretty adorable and worth checking out
if you have a little one number seven
The Young Turks you know there’s this
code on TV what you can and can’t say
we don’t give a damn about that code not
buying it illegal it’s a turtle a
concept that dates back to 2002 when
co-founder genki ogre hosted a serious
radio show the young turks is now a
weekly liberal news program that breaks
down the latest in politics and pop
culture and on the wrecking ball that’s
kind of fun okay but if you’re her dad I
don’t know right I would prefer she wore
flannel shirt if I was her dad the
channel has multiple segments whether
it’s the main show The Young Turks where
the host discuss a particular topic in
the news something like final judgment a
daily show created for facebook where a
young turks host provides his or her
final take on the day’s biggest news in
a few minutes or their partnership with
al Jazeera’s digital channel aj+ overall
the young turks tackle serious issues
but they do so in a light-hearted
informative and ingenious way making the
news more than bearable to hear it was a
lot harder to do the video that it was
even regard be so much more of an
emotional experience number six
machinima machine and cinema behold
machinima founded in two thousand this
gaming network revolutionized the
YouTube platform by pioneering the
multi-channel network and with over 5000
partners and a multi-million dollar
partnership with Google this brand is
clearly impressive okay now again we
have to remind you know this isn’t an
adaptation of the video game coming to
the big screen or little screen this is
about the story behind the making of the
game Grand Theft Auto which is still
interesting you can find trailers for
the newest video games podcasts top 10
lists a new show and more and with a
publishing schedule of multiple videos a
day there is plenty of happiness at this
online playground one of the treasures
of this channel was the inside gaming
series which features a bunch of gamers
playing a variety of games how is it
that they made a game where the
character models within the game look
embarrassed to be in the game however in
January 2015 the crew announced they
were leaving for bigger and better
things that said you can still find
hundreds and hundreds of episodes on the
channel okay here it is the big one
oh yeah there is a spoon Oh number 5
Vsauce hey Vsauce Michael here back in
2010 Michael Stevens realized that
youtubers really wanted to know the
strangest facts about science so after
coming up with the name Vsauce thanks to
a fake name generator he stopped
uploading videos to his personal channel
poop liquor 888 and got to work on a new
project the Vsauce brand consists of
numerous channels vsauce vsauce to
vsauce3 and the cleverly titled we sauce
which features the work of fans I would
love to get more people involved in
doing this because I truly believe that
curation is the future Stevens educates
his fans with interesting facts as he
tackles everyday questions with a clear
voice like is earth actually flat to
more scientifically intense theories
like the tarski paradox he also shares
his wisdom by speaking at Ted
engagements as he opens up our minds and
allows us to see the world in a whole
new light I weigh about 190 pounds how
much will the video way number 4 epic
rap battles of history created by peter
shukoff and lloyd ahlquist epic battles
of history or a or b pits historical
figures against each other in the
proverbial ring as they engage in
comedic warfare look what the cat
dragged back from the dead man it looks
like Chewbacca watches s on your head
next Michael Jackson just felt like
Betty White here’s the match for you
can’t it be both a fun tonight they
school us with knowledge as our favorite
historical figures school each other
with dope rhymes you never know what
kind of battles will come up or who will
star in the videos as its attracted
YouTube stars and memorable mashups such
as Steve Jobs vs Bill Gates talk about
doctors I’ve seen a few cuz I gotta pee
scene but it wasn’t from you up as a
legacy son you can never stop now excuse
me while I turn having a profit the
first rap battles cost approximately 50
American dollars to produce and after 12
million subs you can definitely tell
that they now have the budget for more
professional productions when I was high
on the mountain God revealed the truth
of the earth but he never mentioned a
fat and Papa Smurf it takes nine rain
mr. all your fat ass you took the Christ
out of Christmas that you stand alone a
number three fine brothers entertainment
oh no you’re not making me watch this
are you the youtubers behind miss
hilarious brand are Rafi and Benny fine
from Brooklyn New York and they’re
widely regarded as the Mavericks of
YouTube in other words they use the
platform to promote their work that
existed pre-2005 you know the dark ages
their main channel features the ever
popular react series which films kids
teens adults and senior citizens
reacting to pop culture news trends and
videos all with hilarious and sometimes
sweet responses she has a lot of talent
I don’t know why she has to sell it on
sexin why she can’t trailblaze some kind
of new path in hip-hop that doesn’t
involve
sure sexuality given their knowledge and
expertise of how YouTube works as a
media platform the fine brothers have
branched out with numerous channels you
may be familiar with the newly created
react channel as well as a series where
they spoil popular TV shows and movies
and a transmedia series called my music
how did the my music companies start
well we started small I mean we’re just
a blog covering underground indie music
and then we expanded it to film concerts
interviews and more number two Smosh in
2002 a teenager by the name of Anthony
Padilla started smosh.com I know what
you’re thinking but you two wasn’t
around in 2002 watchmojo you’re right it
wasn’t but like so many digital
entrepreneurs Padilla and his pal Ian
Hecox saw an opportunity and eventually
established a Smosh YouTube channel when
YouTube did roll around give me some
hockey tennis let me spin about ocarina
so I kicked that never get it all the
way to Argentina they’ve since gone on
to create 10 Smosh related channels with
seven of them being active today
including a let’s play channel titled
Smosh games and a personal one that
follows the life of Padilla these guys
are responsible for numerous YouTube
milestones and they’ve even created the
smosh games alliance to allow fans to
get in on the ad revenue Smosh is simply
everywhere in fact they even starred in
their own film which hit theaters on
july 23rd 2015
I’m so glad that happened how is the
funniest thing I’ve seen all day before
we unveil our pick for most influential
YouTube brand here are a few honorable
mentions
[Music]
number one Khan Academy my name is Sal
Khan I’m the founder and faculty of the
Khan Academy and we’re trying to educate
the world thanks to the teachings of
Salman Khan a world of YouTube students
are able to educate themselves through
the teachings of Khan Academy Khan has
three degrees from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology commonly known
as MIT so he’s definitely got the
credentials there was a time when
Einstein couldn’t count to ten and
Shakespeare had learned his ABCs just
like the rest of us thankfully were born
to learn early on Khan Academy focused
on mathematics but as more youtubers
subscribed the courses were expanded in
large part thanks to Bill Gates and
other various organizations around the
world after all Khan Academy is a 501
not-for-profit organization no Khan
Academy doesn’t have 10 million
subscribers like some of the other
channels on this list in fact it’s not
even halfway to 5 million but as the
world becomes busier and people are
discovering more efficient ways to learn
this YouTube brand is on the verge of
transforming the essence of online
education as we know it I want to be a
standalone Virtual School where anyone
in the world wants to learn anything can
go there start from the basics progress
as far as they need to go get feedback
yet assessment get practice thats it for
