full priced games with ridiculous
microtransactions
before we begin we publish new videos
every day so be sure to subscribe for
more great content for this list we’ll
be looking at fully priced triple-a
video games which include
microtransactions for the purpose of
this list we won’t be ranking the list
based on the weirdness or uselessness of
the purchasable content rather we’ll be
ranking it based on the games themselves
and how poorly and controversially they
implemented set microtransactions quick
hidden run get me close to the truck and
I’ll take care of the rest
number 10 Metal Gear Solid 5 the phantom
pain how can we let this happen
I guess it’s time to increase security
just give me the order the Metal Gear
Solid series has always been a
consistent franchise for delivering some
of the highest quality experiences in
gaming this continued with the phantom
pain as it received universal acclaim
both from critics and audiences alike
that said it’s known contains some
egregious microtransactions which we
really can’t forgive you could purchase
something called mother based coins
using real world money coins which were
then used to upgrade your headquarters
by building forward operation bases of
course the most absurd thing to be
purchased with these coins was FOP
insurance which is exactly what it
sounds like it covers the cost of assets
stolen by other players
do we really need to be purchasing
insurance policies in our games we’re
ready to strike back say the word
number 9 Call of Duty World War 2
it wouldn’t be a modern Call of Duty
game without some microtransactions now
what it Call of Duty World War two
seemingly put the series back in the
good graces of fans it was relatively
well received and it doubled the sales
of infinite warfare when comparing their
first 10 days the men they implemented
in Fox’s ones that could be purchased
with in-game currency or of course
real-world money to make matters even
more deceptive the game actively
encourages players to watch others open
loop boxes that they earn almost as a
way of coercing you into dropping a few
extra bucks for that one rare gun number
8 Middle Earth shadow of war Middle
Earth shadow of Mordor was one of 2014’s
best titles and then shadow of war had
to essentially squander that good
reputation shadow of war was one of the
first major targets of the great loot
box Fiasco of 2017 and also one of the
most notable examples epic and legendary
orcs and gear are a commodity in this
game and while you can certainly find
them easily enough you can also purchase
them with gold coins which of course can
be bought with real money effectively
lessening the game’s difficulty and
speeding you towards the ending like
most microtransactions this stuff isn’t
really necessary but purchasing a few of
these loot boxes could get you to the
true ending of the game faster so fans
were upset
number seven dead space 3
the first two dead space games are
masterpieces of survival horror taught
dark scary through the epitome of the
genre then dead space 3 all but
eliminated the whole survival and horror
aspect with the promises of God like
items if you just worked out a few extra
box crafting weapons is a major aspect
of this version of dead space and the
game allows you to bypass exploration in
favor of simply purchasing the necessary
components to craft better weapons this
completely negates the survival aspect
of the game and eliminates any sort of
tension and exploration or fear when you
can simply buy the best gun around what
do you have left to be scared of number
6
call of duty modern warfare remastered
we beat activision to completely ruin
one of the most beloved multiplayer
games of all time with their business
practices microtransactions for this
title went live in a December update as
players had the ability to purchase
cosmetic items the following February
though players could purchase new
weapons including a fully auto 12-gauge
shotgun and a 44 Magnum the spine
Activision promising that
microtransactions would be limited to
cosmetics they also charged for the
variety map pack despite most remasters
coming equipped with all DLC and to make
matters worse it was $5 more than it was
in 2008
I mean adjusting for inflation yeah but
this is really scummy number 5 Davis X
mankind divided human revolution was one
of the greatest games of the seventh
generation so bad expectations were high
for the follow-up mankind divided while
the title was well received enough the
implementation of microtransactions
definitely squandered some of their
goodwill I mean we’re beginning to see a
pattern here
fantastic predecessor disappointing
microtransaction level 2 sequel an kind
devided offered over a dozen
microtransaction packs which allowed you
to purchase in-game credits praxis kits
for your augmentation weapon packs and
chipsets the best part about all this
most of these items were one-time use so
you didn’t exactly keep the stuff that
you bought obviously these
microtransactions were completely
unnecessary with the game’s producer
calling them accelerators but come on
that’s like baiting to cheat you want to
make a shitty mobile game with these
shitty mobile game tactics in them then
do it in your shitty mobile game
division like you already do
number 4 meter speed payback
he’s gonna get me some views too sure he
a had a tough 2017 needless to say
Need for Speed was no exception either
as players noticed that paybacks
progression system was far harsher and
more restrictive than games in the past
suddenly you had to use what was
essentially a slot machine to get parts
needed to tune up your car and players
had to contend with artificial timers to
limit the amounts of times you could use
one at a time the response was so toxic
that EA altered the progression system
increasing the amount of rep and Bank
given to players and dishing out more
frequent air suspension in shipments but
at that point the damage had already
been done
number three evolve evolve was meant to
be the next big well evolution in
multiplayer experiences similar to left
4 Dead’s
surprisingly found an expansive versiv
mode what players got instead was the
shell of a good game which required you
to pay double to get the full experience
the DLC and microtransactions were
enough to bring the whole experience
crashing down though the season pass
cost 25 bucks and gave you access to
four unique monsters also sold
separately for 750 and some skins the
game also forced you to purchase skins
for your monsters and weapons something
that could have easily been made
available through a progression system
similar to call of duty
number two NBA 2k 18
jealousy sports games have always been
ripe for the implementation of
microtransactions and while many titles
have employed them in recent years
perhaps not have done so so egregiously
as NBA 2k 18 the game relies on
something called virtual currency which
is used to purchase cosmetic items like
haircuts but it’s also the only way to
level up your custom character stats or
obtain signature moves to make matters
worse you must first unlock the option
to purchase these upgrades then actually
purchase them with your currency
accumulating currency takes forever or
you can just buy it in bulk with real
cash an option which the game
shamelessly throws in your face every
chance it gets
it’s like we’ve been here before past
life you think number one Star Wars
Battlefront 2 still won’t smudge dreams
yeah you knew this was coming right if
loop boxes and microtransactions weren’t
seen as a problem before
battlefront tubes ought to change that
players noticed that the beta contained
blue boxes which in the full version
would give paying players a significant
advantage players also notice that it
took dozens of hours of grinding to
unlock characters without purchases EA
tried to smooth this over by lowering
the necessary credits to unlock heroes
while also lowering the rewards they
gave you for grinding so it’s just even
now the outrage resulted in EA losing 3
billion in stock value and it caught the
attention of various government bodies
around the world who are now exploring
the potentially harmful practice of loop
boxes which many consider to be a form
of exploitative gambling it’s a trap
good job EA
