watch out
welcome to watchmojo.com and today I’ll
be counting down our picks for the top
10 facts about the green arrow for five
years I’ve had only one thought one goal
survive
survive and one day return home before
we begin we publish new videos every day
so be sure to subscribe for more great
content number 10 it took four decades
for him to get his own comic Oliver
Queen is alive
the Starling city resident was found by
fishermen in the North China Sea five
days ago the Emerald Archer took aim at
comic book stardom in more fun Comics
number 73 in 1941 but even though he
would be a regular part of the DC
Universe for decade he didn’t actually
get to star in his own solo comic book
until 1983
and even then it was only a four-issue
miniseries not to worry though within a
few years the arrow was starring in an
ongoing series that sold very well and
snared many new fans along the way it
delivers now is it tough to mention not
anymore number 9
Oliver’s father made him into the green
arrow
[Music]
hurry up how Oliver Queen became the
green arrow has been retold a number of
times in was the more recent retelling
Oliver was stranded on an island and
tortured by a masked man this made him
learn how to fight for himself and to
develop defenses and strategies it
eventually turned out that the man who
inflicted all of this torture upon him
plus his father he was in fact training
Oliver so that he would have all the
guts and know how to take on the role of
the crime-fighting Green Arrow
[Applause]
number eight he resembles Batman in a
lot of ways for a reason I am returning
not the boy who was shipwrecked but the
man who will bring justice those who
have poisoned my city Batman has the
Batcave the Batmobile and the batplane
Green Arrow has an arrow cave arrow car
and aeroplane
and of course both men are excessively
wealthy they also each have awards that
dresses up in red togs to fight crime
along with them and while Batman has all
those neat gadgets in his utility belt
Oliver has a quiver full of arrows with
boxing gloves
bolos and a boomerang the resemblance
was apparently intentional Cece wanted
to give readers more of the things that
they loved about Batman without running
the risk of them getting tired of him
work for us blood fetch lost a wife
that’s frightened me
I mainly shared my dress
[Music]
number seven green arrow is a family man
at heart Oliver hi the DC Universe has a
number of heroes who have intentionally
or otherwise become fathers few of them
however are as open and loving toward
their family and Oliver twenties Ward
Roy Harper went through some rough times
Oliver took time out to be there for him
I used to be a lot like you boy I doubt
that I spend more time in the back of
cop cars than LEM Mo’s he’s also very
demonstrative of his love for his son
Connor and there’s been a long bond of
love between him and Black Canary
a bond that has been strengthened
throughout the years I can’t live
without you baby literally mean arrow
was also clearly distraught when Roy’s
daughter was senselessly killed family
means a lot to this Archer like the
flash
please secret I’ve actually met the
flash what’s he like
is he cool yeah super cool best guys I
know
number six is writer also created
Aquaman and slept with movie stars
weren’t wasting our with the writer who
crafted the first green arrow story and
as well as many subsequent adventures
wasting her also helped to develop the
Sea King Aquaman although he’s perhaps
better known for editing the Superman
family comics for many years without
wasting her Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane
wouldn’t have had their own comics oh
and that bit about sleeping with movie
stars it’s a lot more innocent than it
sounds during World War two he was
stationed at Yale where his roommates
included Oscar winners Broderick
Crawford and William Holden we said
sleep together that’s what we meant if I
could be of any help
I’m sorry mr. Guinness but I just didn’t
think was any good
I found it flat and trite exactly what
kind of material do you recommend James
Joyce Dostoevsky number five his
inspirations are both obvious and
obscure it’s pretty clear that any man
who kicks up a bow and arrow and fights
crime is going to have been greatly
inspired by the legend of Robin Hood add
to that the fact that both men were fond
of green apparel and the connection is
even clearer however the greenness along
with his wealth also connects him to the
Green Hornet much less well-known as an
inspiration is a novel and subsequent
movie serial called the Green Archer
that’s about a masked Bowman who wears
leotards and uses his arrows to bring
about justice does that sound familiar
[Music]
number four the Justice League wasn’t
his first super team
[Music]
Green Arrow wasn’t a part of the
original lineup of the Justice League
not joining until issue number four of
the team’s comic but he’s heavily
identified with the team thanks to the
prominent role he played in its various
incarnations I don’t believe it however
the league wasn’t the first team that
Ollie joined back in 1941 Green Arrow
and speedy were both members of the
seven soldiers of victory also called
the laws Legionnaires you read um hi
I’ll hit a rope whatever kind of like a
second string Justice Society they only
lasted for 14 issues in their original
run week number three his enemy
bullseye brings to mind another famous
villain and now people of Gotham City
the moment you have all been waiting for
[Applause]
okay so we left out one of the other
similarities to Batman back in fact
number eight in 1940 Green Arrow and
speedy tangled several times with a
villain by the name of bullseye he got
his name from the giant target on his
chest but he got his inspiration from
someone else wearing a clown suit with a
white face and brightly colored makeup
he was clearly an attempt to give the
arrow a joker like foe nice try but he
was no match for the original Joker yeah
greetings Gotham and Merry Christmas I
hope you’re watching Batman this one for
you number two speedy
his sidekick was once a heroin addict
save the speeches your ex-girlfriend are
delayed one on me still no effect in the
1970s Green Arrow became outspoken on
political and social issues and frankly
his soapboxing sometimes got a bit much
that’s why it was such a shock for him
to discover that his sidekick speedy had
developed a heroin addiction I think
it’s not okay
horse I’ll take worse it’s better to be
dead than in a hospital these days right
what do you mean the issues dealing with
this story were groundbreaking for their
time
DC even prompted the wrath of the comics
code Authority by publishing them the
issues were enormously controversial but
they helped usher in a new era of social
consciousness at DC Comics alie how many
guys has this doofus taken out that
would be all of them before we unveil
our topic here a few honorable mentions
[Music]
number one his original artist was fired
for demanding better treatment Hey
working conditions have not always been
great in the comic book world in 1968
several DC creators including George
Pass
the artist who designed Green Arrow
wanted proper health care and retirement
benefits I need to get back to Central
City if I still want to be employed
which I do exactly what happened when
they approached management on this issue
is a matter of debate
however at about this time many of DC’s
old guard writers and artists will let
go
including path you can’t stop us
in addition to green arrow PAP is
credited with creating bizarro con
gorillas and General Zod and also worked
for many years on Superboy this is all
very ironic because as a spokesperson
for the little man Green Arrow certainly
would not have approved of this
treatment you said that you wanted to be
a different person you are Robert Queen
son
I don’t need to be reminded of that
obviously you two do you agree with our
picks check out these other great clips
from WatchMojo and subscribe for new
