hi I’m Veronica the watchmojo.com and
today an you Sarah inspired yoga
instructor Jen lorac shows as the Sun
Salutation Series in yoga we often hear
about the Sun Salutation series what is
this exactly sun citations would be a
series of postures that are linked
together in a flow kind of series so you
would move sequentially from one posture
to the next what’s the history behind
this series it’s actually debated among
quite a few scholars but from what I
know it is about 2500 years old if not
older so it was basically developed so
if we would separate the word on sun
salutations and Sanskrit it would be
Surya Namaskar so Surya would mean son
and then na mas with mean to bow or to
adorn and so the idea behind this was
that we’re always almost bowing to the
Sun within the light within that there’s
a connection to everything to nature to
life itself through our hearts and
through our bodies what are the benefits
of all of these postures there’s the
usual you know benefits like strength
and flexibility there’s also a lot of
benefits when it comes to distressing
being able to sleep better just simply
like the look and the feel of your skin
there’s a natural because the blood
flows better in the body there’s this
natural kind of detoxing process of the
organs for women going through
menstruation time it can be actually
something that is quite soothing and
quite calming whether it comes to like
cramps whether it comes to there’s
certain postures that we can do to
rebalance hormones even there is the
idea that Sun citations or even yoga in
general can have more of this longevity
effect this youthful kind of effects how
important is our breathing in these
postures one of the kind of common
mistakes that either students make and
and in Sun Salutations is that there’s
the idea that the breath is always
leading you and you always follow so
let’s say the breath may be in the form
of the the universal or something
greater kind of guiding you so a common
mistake is that they will start the
movement before the breath is initiated
and you always want to flow with your
breath so once again there’s an inhale
then the movement starts or there’s an
exhale and then the movement starts
thank you so much you’re welcome so
you’re just gonna come to standing at
the front of your mat and take a stance
that has the feet parallel to each other
than hip-width apart and then gently
place the hands of the heart and prayer
take a breath in and lift the arms all
the way up reach for the sky ground for
the earth exhale with a soft heart bow
forward touch the earth butta nos and a
standing forward bend inhale look up
lengthen the spine lift the heart and
then bow once again from a hand step
back push-up chaturanga
inhale push into the hands lift the
heart bring the arm moans back shoulder
blades onto the back and then retook the
toes downward dog Adam Lopez four nos
and I keep the arm bones lifting soft
heart step the feet forward uttanasana
forward and once again bow inhale lift
the arms all the way up stretch up to
the fingertips lift the heart and exhale
Center the hands back to prayer Anjali
