watching a performance by the Lipizzaner

and witnessing a continuing tradition of
400 years audiences around the world and
throughout the centuries have
experienced the same uniforms
horsemanship and music the Lipizzaner
stallions a horse bred for beauty and
intelligence with a personality for
grand display these stallions
are descendants from 16th century lipika
where the Habsburg nobility owned the
original royal stud farm today the
Lipizzaner stallions that were once bred
and trained for battle 400 years ago now
perform equestrian ballet and dressage
for audiences around the world the
horses show their Grace and skill with
choreographed trots Cantor’s and
pirouettes early in the performance
steps movements and dressage are
explained and demonstrated so the
audience can recognize and better
appreciate these movements as they
appear in the performance dressage is
the art of perfecting the natural gait
essentially it is the harmony between
horse and rider the goal is not only to
entertain but also to educate audiences
with a focus on the historical
background of the horses in the airs
above the ground section the horses
showcase manoeuvres perfected by riders
in battle this is a series of exercises
where the horse leaps above the ground
these include the Caprio Corvette and
lavada
and are performed with or without a
rider following the airs above the
ground act is a solo this gives the
audience a chance to focus their
attention on one horse and rider
throughout the show are many military
drills these acts further demonstrate
the bond between Rider and horse as
there is no obvious use of communication
between the two the grand finale of
every performance is the grand quadrille
six to eight horses and their riders
perform an elaborate equestrian ballet
this performance demonstrates the long
and patient training that culminates in
a work of our
traveling back in time when the horse
was a symbol of grace and Majesty the
Lipizzaner stallions are truly and
experienced not to be missed
