The WatchMojo.com TV Show – Season 1: Episode 1

hey everyone my name is Aaron Sims and
you’re watching watchmojo.com TV in
today’s show we’ll dive into the world
of diving travel to Jordan interview
acclaimed music artist Moby but first
we’ll talk about something that’s on
everyone’s mind high gas prices and the
trend to adopt green cars hello everyone
this is Chris at watchmojo.com now today
I’m joined with Christina Hollander
whose representative for Ford and she’s
going to show us some of the
technologies and things we can look
forward to from the company this year
right behind you is the Ford Escape
Hybrid which was the first world hybrid
in an SUV basically every time you break
the power that’s left from the brake
system is generated it’s called
generative breaking and that is stored
in a battery as electricity and your
vehicle then moves forward it’s
beneficial in the city because there’s a
lot of stop-and-go and if you press the
pedal you know you could go up to i
would say 42 kilometers an hour before
the gas engine kicks in however on the
highway because your gas engine is also
helped by your electric engine both of
them work together therefore you still
get some efficiencies on the highway our
new engine technology it’s called
EcoBoost it performs like a v8 engine
but has fuel economy of a v6 engine it
also reduces co2 emissions by fifteen
percent it’s an engine that will be
launching next year with our Lincoln MKS
and further on will be transferring this
technology to all our lineup from small
cars all the way to our pickups there’s
a two-tiered solution for those of us
who are concerned about fuel efficiency
in the environments you have hybrid is
one this is a separate option it’s not
something used in conjunction with
hybrid correct this is our short-term
option if you want this is the immediate
midterm we announce that we’re reducing
the weight of our vehicles and we’re
also going to offer more diesel engines
in the future and I mean long-term we’re
already have a fleet of focuses out in
Vancouver which work on hydrogen and
we’re testing that we’re testing fuel
cells those are technologies that right
now are
in the testing stages because there’s no
I’m frustra you can’t go to the gas
station and get hydrogen often of a
technology no matter how beneficial it
is if it causes us to have to totally
redo our daily habits people are going
to be resistant to it don’t have to
adapt your lifestyle to the vehicle I
mean we did it for you in this video
we’re going to examine electric cars
hybrid cars and hydrogen cars electric
power cars can be powered by batteries
or by the Sun a solar car is an electric
vehicle powered by solar energy obtained
from solar panels on the surface of the
car such cars can operate for limited
distances without the Sun and the solar
cells are generally very fragile most
solar cars only have enough room for one
or two people solar cars compete in
races such as World Solar Challenge and
America Solar Challenge these events are
often sponsored by government agencies
such as the united states department of
energy GM and Honda are two carmakers
that have also competed along with
numerous universities a battery electric
vehicle or B EV is an electric vehicle
that utilizes chemical energy stored in
rechargeable battery packs electric
vehicles can use an electric motor
instead of an internal combustion engine
some use both be V’s include cars trucks
scooters golf carts and forklifts
essentially any vehicle does not conduct
long-range transportation hybrid cars
are called as such because they combine
the power of a gasoline engine with the
pedal power of its Rider the hybrid is a
balance that increases the mileage of
the electric car and reduces emissions
of a gas-powered car in addition to cars
it should be noted locomotives and
submarines are hybrids as well most
hybrid cars on the road right now are
gasoline electric hybrids although there
are car manufacturers that are working
on diesel electric hybrid cars a
hydrogen vehicle is a vehicle such as an
automobile or an aircraft that uses
hydrogen as its primary source of power
for locomotion over the past few years
we’ve seen many celebrities join the
cause to support governments and car
makers is drive towards so-called green
car
introducing the concept Chevy Volt it
runs on electricity gasoline e85 or
biodiesel thanks to GMC flex propulsion
system he stands for electricity this
vehicle is completely run through an
electric motor it is powered by a
lithium-ion battery pack and
supplemented with a three cylinder one
liter turbocharged engine that can
recharge the batteries for extended
range use this technological advance
offers a 640 mile electric capacity plus
the gas range helping decrease our
dependence on petroleum while reducing
greenhouse emissions typically people
who don’t drive more than 20 miles one
way to work would use this vehicle daily
plug it in every night for six hours
drive to and from work and never have to
fill up the gas tank the on-board engine
generator can also recharge the battery
while driving Chevy promises no
compromise in performance when relying
on electricity the engine can perform at
peak efficiency and off the line torque
instantly for mass savings and fuel
efficiency the makers of volt needed to
create an aerodynamic model and take out
as much weight of the vehicle as
possible polycarbonate can take up to
fifty percent of the mass which
otherwise would have been in glass lexan
polycarbonate brought the ability to
achieve designs and shapes the glass is
incapable of by its nature the Chevy
Volt uses almost 400 water bottles in
the applications of just one car its
body parts are made of plastic
composites that are recyclable and that
use recycled components these
constructions use the compressive
strengths of fibre enjoy wireless
connectivity and Bluetooth technology
this front-wheel drive sports sedan also
offers the passenger and cargo
capacities of a production car and more
UV light activates ink on the clear lens
behind the speedometer for full colored
animated displays that can be viewed
from all angles
you
hey everybody welcome back to
watchmojo.com TV show next up our travel
correspondent Rebecca Brayton takes us
on a trip to Jordan located between
Mecca and Jerusalem Jordan is considered
by many to be the center of religious
faith hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome
to watchmojo.com and today we’ll be
continuing our travel series with the
look at the many biblical sites in
Jordan Mount Nebo is considered one of
the most important Christian sites in
Jordan it is where Moses is said to have
gone to get a view of the promised land
before he died Mount Nebo offers a
fantastic view westward with a Vista
that includes the Dead Sea the West Bank
the Jordan River and on a clear day
Bethlehem and Jerusalem according to
both Jewish and Christian tradition
Moses was then buried on this mountain
by God himself in two thousand Pope John
Paul the second visited the mountain
during his pilgrimage to the Holy Land
to symbolize peace the Pope planted an
olive tree beside the Byzantine Chapel
atop one of Nero’s two peaks sits a
shrine showcasing mosaics which
decorated the monastery that once stood
at the location the largest mosaic
depicts the monastic activity of
winemaking along with hunters and
various animals just outside the
building is the serpentine cross a
symbol to represent both the bronze
Serpent created by Moses and the cross
on which Jesus were crucified the Jordan
River is associated with some of the
most important events in the Bible
historically and religiously it is
considered to be one of the world’s most
sacred rivers many biblical characters
most notably John the Baptist in Jesus
crossed the river during their lifetimes
to most Christians the most significant
event link to the River Jordan is the
baptism of Christ by John the Baptist
the baptism site is located at the head
of a lush Valley just east of the Jordan
River the New Testament refers several
times to Jesus crossing the Jordan and
have believers crossing to hear him
speak or be healed of their maladies
jesus also sought refuge near the river
when his enemies were trying to capture
him the Jordan was also the site of many
biblical miracles such as the Israelites
crossing under joshua and the healing of
naman by elijah for example today
believers flock to the Jordan to bask in
its waters and be baptized in the same
river as Jesus Christ of the mountains
at circle Petra none is more imposing
than Aaron’s mountain it is believed
Moses his brother Aaron died and was
buried on the peak although biblical
scholars and archaeologists debate
whether it is in fact the Mount hor
referred to in the old testament Aaron’s
story fits strongly with this mountain
located roughly 20 miles southwest of
Amman matava is best known for its
mosaics especially a large Byzantine
mosaic map depicting Jordan Palestine
Egypt and other surrounding regions the
Madame von map can be found in the Greek
Orthodox Church of st. George and is the
oldest surviving chart of the Holy Land
in fact the map has helped verify
biblical locations it is estimated that
the madam a map originally consisted of
2.3 million stone tiles and measured a
staggering 80 by 15 feet the Hashemite
Kingdom of Jordan offers a wide
collection of sites despite it being
such a small country hi I’m Rebecca
Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com and
today we’ll be continuing our travel
series with a look at Jordan Jordan is
bordered by Syria Iraq Israel the West
Bank and Saudi Arabia its capital city
is a Mon with a population of six
million the country’s tourism focuses
mainly on historic and religious sites
located within its borders Jordan
consists mostly of arid desert and as
such the climate is for the most part
hot and dry however the western part of
the country receives more precipitation
between november and march seeing the
occasional snowfall and Amman and
surrounding areas journ has been
featured as the backdrop for various
Hollywood movies most notably Lawrence
of Arabia red planet and Indiana Jones
in the Last Crusade a man’s tourism is
focused mainly in the downtown area
around a traditional market called a
souk and the King Hussein mosque the
highest point in Jordan is jabal room at
5689 feet and the lowest point in the
country is also the lowest point on the
globe the Dead Sea at- 1378 feet it is
said to possess healing powers and tours
can be seen floating along peacefully
reading a newspaper as sinking is nearly
impossible aqaba is jordan’s only
seaport and therefore an important part
of the country the town is best known
for its beach and diving resort and it
offers a variety of watersports to
visitors the thriving underwater marine
life and crystal-clear waters make a
Kiva an ideal place for snorkeling and
scuba diving the River Jordan is an
important religious site because of its
connection with Jesus Christ the river
is said to be where John the Baptist
baptized Jesus and therefore believers
make pilgrimages to this area Mount Nebo
is also a significant religious location
it is said to be the spot where Moses
went to view the Holy Land before he
died the summit provides outstanding
views of the surrounding areas and on a
clear day visitors can see so far as
Jericho and Jerusalem the wadi rum is
one of jordan’s most important tourist
destinations popular activities in the
desert environment include camping under
the stars and rock climbing also known
as the valley of the moon the wadi rum
is where
TE Lawrence set up headquarters during
the Arab revolt against the Ottomans in
world war one cherish is sometimes
referred to as the Pompeii of the Middle
East however that name is slightly
misleading as cherish was never covered
by a volcano it is so named because of
its size and level of treasure vation
the city is best known for the ruins of
the greco-roman city garrison last but
not least is Petra Petra’s nickname the
rose city comes from the deep colors of
the rock from which the city’s many
monuments are carved the Victorian
traveler and poet Dean Bergen described
the city in his poem Petra with the
closing lines match me such a marble
save in Eastern climb a rose red city
half as old as time lost cities Bible
stories and Lawrence of Arabia Jordan
has its share of captivating history hi
I’m Rebecca Britain and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’ll be
continuing our travel series with a look
at the top five sites you need to see
when travelling in Jordan the first
location on our list is one of jordan’s
most famous tourist sites the ancient
city of petra located near the wadi musa
mountains the site is renowned for its
rock-cut architecture existing only in
legend for over 7 centuries this lost
city was finally rediscovered in 1812
and the secret of Petra was revealed to
the modern Western world since then
Petra has been the backdrop for several
Hollywood movies most notably Indiana
Jones and the Last Crusade the most
direct route into Petra is through the
seat canyon the path of which narrows to
16 feet while the walls tower over 650
feet above the canyon eventually opens
onto the most impressive monument in
Petra carved out of solid rock from the
side of a mountain and standing over 130
feet high the treasury was originally
built as a roll tomb the city of Petra
is now one of the new seven wonders of
the world and has been a unesco world
heritage site since 1985 at number 2 on
our list is the largest valley in Jordan
the wadi rum wadi rum was made famous in
the book the Seven Pillars of wisdom by
British officer TE Lawrence the valley
is cut into sandstone and granite rock
and is stunning in its natural beauty
surrounding cliffs attract climbers
while the vast empty desert draws hikers
with its sands Cape of ancient valleys
and towering sandstone mountains rising
out of the sand wadi rum is also home to
several Bedouin tribes who live in
scattered camps throughout the area our
number 3 location is the lowest point on
earth the Dead Sea lying 1378 feet below
sea level the Dead Sea is over 45 miles
long and as its name suggests
see holds no plant or animal life
because of an extremely high content of
salt and other minerals visitors to the
Dead Sea get an unforgettable swimming
experience both swimming and sinking is
made virtually impossible by the high
density of the water and therefore
reclining in the water is the most
common post the city of jerash comes in
at number four on our list cherish is
considered one of the largest and most
well-preserved sites of Roman
architecture in the world outside Italy
even today it’s colonnaded streets baths
plazas and arches remain in exceptional
condition finally number five on our
list is the city of a month Aman is
built on seven hills in each of those
hills more or less defines the
neighborhood the ancient citadel is an
important military and religious site
the towers over the city much of the
city’s tourism is centered in the older
downtown area sites such as the old soup
which is a colorful traditional market
and the king hussein mosque are popular
tourist locations
you
hey everyone welcome back to
watchmojo.com TV show if you’re just
tuning in then you missed our segments
about green cars and traveling to Jordan
if you want to check that out you can go
to watchmojo.com now we have a special
treat our music correspondent Layla is
sitting down with Richard Melville haul
AKA Moby
last night is mobis sixth studio album
and also his way of letting you in on
what New York City dance music is all
about i’m laila for watchmojo.com taking
a break from the release of his new
album Moby took a few minutes to tell us
more you’ve described it as a love
letter to the New York City dancing
since you’ve been in New York how has
the music scene impacted your musical
development what I found really
inspiring about the New York music scene
when I was growing up and even now is it
sort of like it’s eclecticism and its
multiculturalism you would go to
nightclubs in New York and you hear all
these different types of music played
right next to each other and I found
that to be really inspiring the cover of
the album these glamorous girls why not
include yourself I wanted to make it a
record that to me felt like a night out
in New York and so a lot of dance music
in New York was inspired by the disco
era and I have this weird fascination
with the disco era it seemed like the
late seventies it was like people
thought they could be completely
debauched and degenerate and hedonistic
without any sense of consequence and
especially in New York that created a
very sort of like glamorous libertine
environment and so I kind of wanted to
reflect that in the record and also I
mean I’m a 42 year old bald guy and I’d
much rather look at like glamorous
people on a record cover than me alice
is probably being top hit single from
that album by James throne and zoning
don’t say like bullets action I told us
so this is old
so this
so it seems like unmistakeably it why is
it an obvious choice it’s weird see I
know nothing about picking singles some
of the most successful singles I’ve ever
had our songs that I didn’t think anyone
would ever like until the song Alice
they say I just picked it as a single
because I liked it and I’m amazed like I
heard that some people at radio or
actually playing it I guess I I’m
grateful that people seem to like it
seconds of magic and my dinner but
shadows we’ve decided some rivers
recognition is a woman I’ve been seeing
with that listen rapid I’m under movable
my telus chemically imbalanced
no I heard it I liked it what do you
look for in a vocalist for electronic
music either great technical proficiency
like someone who’s just got a beautiful
voice or someone was a really
distinctive voice Moby’s very concise
with his recording process so he says
Lucy you want to come over and sing on
the song and I say okay so we sent me
the song like an hour before maybe less
all the music that you’ve combined
electronic new wave punk it’s not
necessarily the lyrics that people will
listen to it’s the whole sensation of
the whole song that’s one reason I love
working with disco divas my name is
shana steel and i’m singing on moby song
disco lies because you give a great
disco diva really trivial lyrics but
somehow they can sing them in such a way
that it’s so pregnant with meaning and
significance don’t leave me this way
like there’s one song on this album last
night called I’m in love and I think the
whole song has nine words like how do
you take a song with nine words and give
it meaning what do you see as the future
of dance music from my perspective dance
music and I don’t want to sound overly
reductionist or simple but dance music
is any music that makes people dance and
that could be a polka it could be
klezmer music it could be disco it can
be the Rolling Stones it can be hip-hop
I just love that idea of music that
makes people dance whether they’re
dancing at a wedding whether they’re
dancing in the living room or in a
nightclub whether they’re dancing like
really cutting-edge electronic music or
whether they’re dancing to porgy and
bess I love that music has that power to
get people to stand up and move around
welcome to watchmojo of slim Williams
debut solo album pulse of the planet
can you tell us something about the
inspiration behind the pulse of the
planet the persona sister sir it’s been
a labor of love actually actually so 35
years in the making because some of the
songs are 35 years old
it’s a reflection of my life that what
I’ve been through and it’s very positive
i can’t i called my music sophistical
yeah like sophisticated hunk of music
but it’s really the new old school as
well what it is is very positive I got a
wonderful man I’ve got a great crew that
would be in the studio so very happy I’m
very blessed
tell me a little bit about the meeting
behind the song victorious great song
that but that’s the song as the groove
is building my hand for a long time but
actually I it’s funny how that came
about because I wrote the first verse
and my co-producer Joel Campbell and my
lyricist and vocal coach actually Dutch
Robinson I don’t know if you know him
each one could know how your players in
the river anyway I brought him in and I
left him to write the song I told him I
needed something that reminded me of
Nelson Mandela something that you know
from power and I took my stepson to it
to drop him off and I came back they put
the chorus and it was amazing
how do you feel the internet affecting
the music industry in the past couple
years I mean this is the
Oh
you
august eighth 2008 marked the beginning
of the summer olympic games in beijing
china our correspondent Christine V
takes us into the world of diving where
she finds out more about how the sport
is judged ever wonder how competitive
diving is judged hi welcome to
watchmojo.com i’m your host Kristine and
today we’ll be telling you how divers
must perform a set number of dives
according to various established
requirements including somersaults and
twists in various directions from
different starting position a dive is
not judged by entry alone all phases of
the performance are considered the
approach that take off the technique and
grace during flight and entry into water
the judges score each dive in its
entirety as each dive has an assigned
degree of difficulty to reward the
athlete for complicated skills a perfect
entry with no splash is called a rip
after the loud tearing sound it creates
a bad entry in which the diver enters
the water at an angle not nearly
vertical is called a wash to reduce the
subjectivity of scoring in major meats
panels of five or seven judges are
assembled in the case where five judges
are assembled the highest and lowest
scores are disregarded and the middle
three are sums and multiplied by the
degree of difficulty in major
international events seven judges are
assembled in these circumstances the
highest and lowest scores are again
disregarded and the middle five are
summed then ratioed by three-fifths and
multiplied by the degree of difficulty
so as to provide consistent comparison
with a five-judge event accordingly it
is extremely difficult for one judge to
manipulate scores diving is classified
as an art as well as a sport beauty and
grace must be added to feats of strength
and agility while the body is moving
through the air the diver must have
total body control most diving
competitions consists of three
disciplines 1 meter 3 meter and tower
also known as the platform competitive
athletes are divided by gender and often
by age groups as well 1 and 3-meter
dives are performed from a springboard 5
through 10 meter dives are performed
from concrete or wooden platform
diving is an international recognized
sport that is part of the Olympic Games
in addition unstructured and
non-competitive diving is a common
recreational pastime in places where
swimming is popular in recent past the
success of Greg Louganis led to American
strength internationally more recently
the greatest diving nation has been
China which came to prominence several
decades ago when the sport was
revolutionized by a national coach Lee
