The Origins of Tintin

this adventure-seeking boy reporter left
from comics to the silver screen victor
welcome to watchmojo.com and today we’ll
be exploring the origins of Tintin it
would be my pleasure detective this
iconic character made his debut on
January 10th 1929 he was created by
Belgian comic writer and artist
George Prest behind me under the pen
name LJ Tintin first appeared in the
book the vatm
which when translated was
internationally titled Tintin in the
land of the Soviets these stories were
produced until 1976 and were later
adapted into a short-lived animated
series in the early 1990s the
inspiration for the character first came
from the author’s younger brother Paul
Jaime he was a career soldier who
inherited the nickname major tank tank
in French this unappealing nickname
literally means nothing in response he
shaved his head to look more menacing
and this inspired the look of colonel
sponsz who was the series monocle
wearing villain Tintin was also inspired
by a real-life Danish boy who had
travelled around the world
however Tintin was not the artists first
attempt at immortalizing that adventurer
he also created a Boy Scout character
named Thoth or as the star of the comic
series The Adventures of Thoth or leader
of the cockchafer Patrol that series ran
for three years until 1929 when Tintin
embarked on his first landmark adventure
since then Tintin has been depicted as a
young reporter who was drawn to perilous
international intrigue in a realistic
twentieth-century setting these events
have ranged from Russia’s Bolshevik
uprising to 1969 s moon landing in
popular culture Tintin is probably best
known and best recognized for his unique
spiked hairstyle blue sweater and
faithful canine companion a Fox Terrier
named snowy he also works alongside such
notable characters as the grumpy Captain
Haddock
billions of blistering blue barnacles
the hearing-impaired professor calculus
and the incompetent detectives Thomson
and Thompson
why would somebody steal a worthless
Idol why the same reason anyone commits
a crime what reason is that because
they’re criminals Tintin is a
well-rounded youth with uncompromising
ideals and exceptional powers of
deduction not only are you a drug dealer
but you’re a terrorist too huh he has
been regularly showcased as an extremely
brave young man with an incredible
streak of good luck
however Tintin also possesses several
special skills ranging from the ability
to speak several languages to being
capable of driving various vehicles in
spite of his young appearance
Tintin’s actual age has never been
revealed as a result he is often treated
as an adult by the characters he meets
he even goes to bars and drinks alcohol
despite what has been shared with
readers Tintin lacks a background story
or even family members and this keeps
the character shrouded in mystery even
the meaning of his name remains vague
and is commonly believed to be a
pseudonym designed to protect his
identity
hi I’m Tintin reporter amazingly none of
these omissions has ever detracted from
his popularity and readers fill in the
gaps on their own The Adventures of
Tintin was originally a comic strip with
clean and expressive drawings today it
is loved by audiences for its diverse
characters its use of slapstick humor
satire and real-life commentary it is
similarly drawn attention by
incorporating several genres within the
narrative ranging from mystery to
fantasy and even science fiction in 2011
Steven Spielberg adapted several earlier
Tintin tales in a spectacular 3d motion
capture film entitled The Adventures of
Tintin this not only introduced the
iconic character to a new generation but
also illustrated the characters ability
to spark the imagination of countless
Minds several decades after his first
appearance hey guys know how you call
the police without a phone well
