The Kooks vs. Arctic Monkeys: Luke Sets Record Straight

this indie rock outfits third album
features their trademark catchy and
melodic Tunes hi I’m Rebecca Braden and
welcome to watchmojo.com and today we’re
speaking with the coox about junk of the
heart juice show let’s talk about junk
of the heart so what were you going for
on that album and you know do you think
you accomplished it and also any fun
stories from writing and recording it’s
a third album I think the third arms
there it’s a moment for us particularly
where we were we gone through some
turmoil and we were just trying to
figuring out why we’re doing this and
trying to find a really strong direction
and and so what we tried to achieve is a
pretty upbeat record which was ethereal
and an experimental as well as having
great melodies we wanted to you know
just absorb a lot of what was what’s
going on around us right now in this
time and stop looking to the Past in a
sense you just you know the past has
happened you want it you want to be
defined by what’s going on now and I
think that’s what this this album is
about
how important was it to have recorded
the album in California that’s
definitely California boy when the
record of thing yeah I definitely think
so I kind of it’s nice to see a ball of
fire in the sky in the month I’m turned
on to January and March so she’s a which
is pretty rare during the Sun yes that’s
that is it was that what you call it
here
as you do
now something I noticed is that you guys
have had a lot of spats with other
British bands and I was just wondering
if this is like a British phenomenon
because I’ve noticed a lot of kind of
media constructed spats between British
bands no there are a bunch of pricks see
see see obviously things go on that is
our issue here things go on don’t they
but I mean who knows but yeah I mean if
you think someone’s you’re gonna
say – excite you exaggerated in
everything you know there’s the ha ha ha
ha choose the words care kit yeah let’s
just stick without there
and everything you have conflict and I
think especially in England for some
reason bands quite like to compete with
each other which is odd but not in a
healthy way it’s a sort of like a
malicious way but a press lie as well
when they lie literally straight up lie
I mean like that Arctic Monkeys thing
with Alex Turner was completely flipped
into something completely ridiculous
when it was not it was said as a funny
joke off the cuff and then it’s like
it’s just so funny I mean you know it’s
one little comment and it was years ago
you know I mean about something way he
pulled my guitar lead out of my thing
whatever and then all of a sudden it’s
like I just told her this funny story
like afterwards we met him and hung out
it’s fine then it’s like cool so I
kicked him in the face man his fight
wait did you know him kick him in the
face not well so I sort of like sort of
pushed his face with my foot I didn’t
like kicking the D the D was off his
head he was like in front of me pull out
my life okay was amazed you know can you
leave leave my guitar cable oh man you
know wasn’t but it wasn’t I can see how
you can get misconstrued but like you
know that’s a good example of where the
press get overexcited and sort of run it
and then all of a sudden they wanna kind
of uh some kind of confrontation between
two singers and bands but
thank you very much guys thank you so
much
