very I am the one who gives presents to
all the children
babushka is a kindly grandmother who was
visited by the three wise men on their
journey to see the baby Jesus she
offered them hospitality and warmth
before they set back out on their trek
when the wise men left they asked her if
she would also like to visit the baby
who would be king she declined because
of the cold weather and returned to the
fireside the next morning she decided
she would like to see the baby and so
she gathered her best gifts and set out
much snow had fallen in the night and so
babushka could not see the tracks of the
wise men she therefore roams her country
giving gifts to all newborns in the
hopes that one would be the baby Jesus
Santa Claus in his red suit and long
white beard is probably the most popular
and well-known Christmas figure of them
all Santa’s images of jolly elf was
solidified in 1823 with publication of
the poem a visit from st. Nicholas now
better known as the night before
Christmas this image is an evolution
from the dignified European bishop in
1863 political cartoonist Thomas Nast
began a series of annual black-and-white
drawings in Harper’s Weekly following
the description in this poem as Nast
continued his drawings until 1886 he had
a significant influence on the public’s
vision of Santa the standard American
Center was formed by the end of the
1920s life-size in a red fur trim suit
in 1931 coca-cola began a 35 year long
advertising campaign starring the man in
red
