so there are some spoilers ahead it’s
audiences were instantly hooked by the
compelling story of this anthology
series first season loosely based on
Shirley Jackson’s seminal horror novel
of the same name the haunting of Hill
House followed the crane family through
dual timelines in the titular mansion in
the past the family slowly spirals out
of control as supernatural forces in the
house drive mrs. crane to madness while
in the present the death of the youngest
crane daughter forces the family to
confront the tragedy and trauma of their
past season one was lauded by critics
and fans alike for its deep examination
of grief and intergenerational mental
illness both elements it handled with
poignancy and grace the season finale
left the crane family with a satisfying
ending and despite the hopes of many
fans it seems that it’s there we shall
leave them at least for now
the haunting in season 2 will be of Bly
house rather than continue the story of
the cranes or even Hill House the plot
aims to rework Henry James a turn of the
screw in the original 1898 novella a
governess caring for two wealthy orphans
begins to see a mysterious man and woman
about the grounds of the mansion at
which she stationed
however as no one else reacts to them
she begins to fear that she’s either
seeing ghosts or losing her mind
or is it over there
the book has been adapted before for
film television radio and theater while
undoubtedly some great liberties will be
taken with the plot just as they were in
season one fans who just can’t wait or
who want to get an idea of what they’re
in for can either read the short novel
or check out the adaptations while the
characters and location will change for
season two it won’t be a completely new
production show creators Mike Flanagan
and Trevor Macy are set to return along
with the team behind the scenes this is
welcome news as Netflix and Flanagan
seem to work well together
the director has worked with the
powerhouse streaming site on several
successful projects such as hush Weegee
origin of evil and Gerald’s game his
continued dedication to the haunting
series should give fans a boost of
confidence for the show’s future it’s
unknown yet if the old cast will
reappear in new roles ala popular horror
anthology American Horror Story hell
yeah I’m a devil mama by committing to
an anthology format the haunting series
will potentially be able to draw on the
vast well of ghosts and haunted house
stories available for re adaptation
maybe season 3 will bring us the
haunting of the house of Seven Gables or
the fall of the House of Usher or even a
deeper look into Manderley the mansion
at the center of Daphne du Maurier’s
Rebecca which was once adapted to film
by none other than the suspense and
horror ohter Alfred Hitchcock she’s gone
in the sea
if you never come back no more like we
said the possibilities are virtually
endless
however as eagerly anticipated as it is
fans won’t get to see what awaits them
at blye house right away slated for a
2020 release it’ll be at least a year
before those porch lights signal us to
