Test Drive: 2011 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V

built to please the tuner crowd this
Nissan comes well equipped with some
serious attitude hi I’m Miranda like
stone with watchmojo.com and today we’re
taking a ride in Nissan’s brand new 2011
Sentra se-r spec V even though the
Sentra se-r spec V is a sporty or higher
performing Sentra the interior really
isn’t that different from a bass Center
or even a versa as far as the dash and
steering wheel and the middle gauges go
like they’re pretty much the same as any
other Nissan
well you have that’s a bit different
from the other is this is fancy oil and
g-force gauge not really sure why the
g-force gauge is there it hasn’t moved
at all while I’ve been driving and they
just sent me driving fast enough but
otherwise it’s a general sedan so stick
shift is right here attached to the
middle console instead of being between
the two seats as is the norm in most
manual cars which gives you a bit of a
better driving position but nothing that
I would write home about
now you think because you’re getting a
four-door sedan that you’re getting a
much more practical car even though this
is higher performing and sporty but
unfortunately or not the SE R Spec V is
equipped with a V bar which is for
better suspension and handling and it
sits between the trunk and the rear seat
which means you have no pass-through the
seats can’t be folded down there isn’t
even an armrest so all you have to use
is either the trunk or the back seat
separately you can’t open them up and
use them both which in my opinion is
pretty impractical I kind of wish the
spec to you is a lot more exhilarating
to drive than it actually is
and of course it actually has 30 more
horsepower than the SE r at 200 and has
a 3.5 liter four-cylinder engine that’s
actually quite responsive but just not
responsive enough I don’t feel that it
has any torque it doesn’t have any power
it doesn’t have any heat and when you
look at its competitors the TTI WRX the
SI are those cars have real attitude
real character and they actually go off
the line respect V it just kind of bogs
down and I don’t feel like I’m doing
anything with it I mean the revs are
revving up everything’s going but the
car’s not actually moving forward it’s
just kind of making a lot of noise and
that’s a real shame because this car is
meant to be a sport compact before
cards meant to be a tuner vehicle and I
just don’t feel it I just don’t get that
sense but I do like about the spec’d
it’s the way that it handles I was
instantly surprised by how well it
handled the corners as a front-wheel
drive car and as you can see by our
surroundings were in the middle of
winter but this car handles really
really well and that’s thanks to the
upgraded suspension the better bushings
and that V bar that I was talking about
before
well the SE R is built to appeal to a
younger sport compact performance crowd
what it’s really done is attracted an
older market of buyers who realized they
can finally afford a cool car and was
such a fierce line-up of competitors I’d
be hard-pressed to choose a spec V over
the others
