movies I am Rebecca and I got the chance
to sit down and watch Super Troopers too
and I’m asking the question with my
friend Phoebe here do comedy sequels
ever work and does this comedy sequel
work and we will answer that question
later so I guess first things first
did you enjoy them I did all things
considered I did enjoy the film I really
liked the first one so I was excited
going in you know I was like talking
about it all day I was like I can’t wait
to see Super Troopers I think I had a
good experience in the movie we had a
lot of good laughs overall a good movie
okay yeah so that’s a good way to start
we will also break it down a little bit
with a short summary of the film which
is basically there’s a territory dispute
between America and Canada
lots of Canadian stereotypes ensue which
of course as Canadians we took to heart
that’s fine
nobody’s offended oh and shenanigans or
as we call them up here apparently
chicane arees ensue yes that was the
Canadians but anyway so that’s the story
we’ve got a couple of new characters
outside of the Broken Lizard crew we’ve
got Rob Lowe playing the french-canadian
mayor he left I think his name and then
Emmanuel shrieky was another character
who I won’t talk about too much because
it’ll give some things away um so there
are a lot of other sequels long sequel
long waited sequels like Zoolander Dumb
and Dumber anchorman yeah did you I mean
I think it’s pretty well established
that none of those really work that well
I I feel like there’s sort of like a
window of time where people are still
hyped up for these stories like I think
it’s maybe different for Super Troopers
because it was sort of like a cult
classic like it’s not like a you know a
widely renowned amazing comedy film like
anchorman or Zoolander but people love
it and I think that there’s like I said
a window of time
where people are still hyped about a
movie and you know 10 years past 15
years past and it’s just sort of like
comedy changes and comedy evolves as the
years go on and I feel like Super
Troopers 2 in particular felt sort of
like a 90s comedy yes me Zach which is
that I guess sort of what I liked about
it but I think that’s why it won’t
appeal to people who are like into
comedy of the 2010s or you know that
sort of era of comedy yeah if they
hadn’t said like make America great
again I literally would not have known
that this movie hadn’t been written in
the 90s or like around the same time as
the original one but that’s a part of
its charm like it’s not a negative thing
it’s a part of its charm but just to
sort of make the point that you know
comedy has changed since Super Troopers
originally came yeah yeah I actually
noticed there were also not a ton of
callbacks to the original movie either
no I appreciated that actually because I
felt like it was gonna be the broken
wizard crew rehashing all of the sort of
really really funny gags from the first
movie which they did to an extent sort
of got it in such a way that it made
sense like I’ve accepted it yeah it
wasn’t like they were trying to present
these jokes to a new audience
they were like subtle references to the
first movie which I think worked better
yeah then had they done it any other way
what I also found worked better than the
original was it was a it was more
cohesive there was a more obvious plot
that they had and beginning middle and
end yeah yeah the original felt kind of
like a just a bunch of SNL sketches
sketch comedy where this one sort of had
like a conflict that you sort of not
that you care more about the the story
or the characters but sort of in a way
you’re sort of like rooting for them you
know like that’s what I liked about it
yeah I was actually rooting for somebody
to get the girl believe it or not I
think gave us crap okay so all in all I
think our opinion is if you like the
first one and the the audience well I
think it received the the movie well
that we saw there was a lot of people in
there who were dressed up as Super
Troopers
we appreciate it a lot it really
enhanced the experience and I think that
like you said people who like Super
Troopers will really really like this
movie it’s funny it’s it’s a fun you
know there are some problems with it I
would say but nothing that you wouldn’t
enjoy yeah I wouldn’t make it you
wouldn’t take away from you exactly yeah
so it’s in theaters on 4/20 duh okay
super troopers to run out and see it
right now
right yeah see you later guys
let’s give a big Canadian welcome to the
vehm oh hi wait that’s our guys they’ve
come up here to tell us how great it’s
gonna be for all of us to become Americans
