Steve Wozniak – The Inventor

from Dancing with the Stars to segway
polo steve wozniak co-founder of Apple
computers is a man who’s not afraid to
try new things hi I’m Rebecca Brayton
and welcome to watchmojo.com and today
we get a one-on-one with a man who wears
his nerd badge with pride and style I
took on a lot of challenges which
probably wouldn’t work in the end a
method of recording data on a floppy
disk in determining what it was when it
came back I started out I’ll get part of
the way there and then i’ll see if i can
solve the rest of it and i always found
the solutions i was lucky it’s like
every job I did was made plus job two
reasons for that one I didn’t have money
and when you work on low resources
you’re trying to do it yourself with
very few parts you’re trying to be
clever you’re trying to think out the
whole solution in the shortest number of
steps and I hadn’t done the jobs before
every single thing that I’m known for
today I had never done before in my life
were taking classes and doing them
actually I’m the rare exception they
were basically no sacrifices at all the
only things I did all the way up through
Apple success were the things that I
enjoyed in life and I would have done
anyway if no one was paying my own brain
my follow technology I’d like to see
good and bad i like to compare i’d buy
an awful lot of it because it’s the only
way you can compare I didn’t go into
dancing with the stars they kind of
found me and they had to argue and
persuade me and it was my friends that
really pushed me into doing something I
really didn’t think I could do
I don’t know we started out but by 1980
I was going to computer shows and you
know we’re kind of going public we’ve
we’ve made a lot of money will kind of
we’ve been in the press long before that
Steve and I and people are always asking
me for an autograph huh I mean I was
just an engineer I just didn’t engineers
Java designed a good computer I like
unusual things I like technology I was
actually presenting an award a huge
award big money award called the
Lemelson prize to Dean Cayman who
invented the segway one night in San
Francisco and I got to ride one and wow
that’s better than going up to the space
station I got into groups of segue
riders and they start talking about
maybe we could play polo it’s about the
only game you can think of that works on
a Segway because you have to hold on
with one hand my team’s been was the
first one to start it we pretty much are
the the spearhead for defining the rules
and the equipment last month we were in
cologne germany and we made it to the
finals but we lost the barbados riding
the single gets me all over town any
town so fast i learned the town much
faster i do many more things that i’m
with walking them it’s like my watch I
people think it’s a gadget why I
invented that actually I think it’s a
gadget watch got all these vacuum tubes
from 1970 that run on a 140 volts and at
first I put it on because it was a neat
thing to show my gadget friends and
after one week I decided this speaks to
my brain it speaks the time for 30
flashes four and four-thirty when I
spend my risk that’s the order by brain
wants the time the way i would say it
for 30 I don’t have to think I find it’s
a more pleasant on my brain
