Sick Puppies Talk Songwriting

when this band plays you know they’re
giving it their all hi I’m Rebecca
Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com and
today we’re speaking with sick puppies
about their musical evolution and their
writing process
makes me
why don’t you give us an idea of kind of
the band’s writing process the songs
usually get started on acoustic guitar
and if it sounds good on acoustic it’s
not going to sound less electric it’s
usually just gonna be louder
it’s good for us because all the songs
what most of the songs that we have on
the records we can translate to acoustic
for television performances and ready
our performances and so it’s a good way
to promote the band so we always sort of
start from there plus it sucks having a
set up big ear every day so it’s easy
just to pull out a guitar and we just
write like that man we wait till we
finish a song and then we’ll put a lot
parts together jam on it and then it
becomes what you hear on the album
I always like to get bands takes on how
they feel their music has evolved since
they started out well at the beginning I
guess we were more like because we were
younger we’d put everything into the
songs and be like quirky and heavy and
stuff like that but now I think we pick
out the best parts and we try and put it
into a song because been like 10 years
and you know evolved like along the way
I would say that we’ve refined
now I saw a quote where I think you said
that the new album was really difficult
to play live I mean have you kind of
worked out the kinks on that it was more
of an intricate record like there were
more intricate parts that were kind of
chunky and stop started because it had
that heavy sound and also on top of that
with a guitar there was a lot of
aggressive vocals lots a lot a lot more
kind of screaming sounding that sort of
shine down saying
once you’ve been on to it for two years
playing the same song as you can do it
it’s like really easy and then you get
thrown 12 new songs and they’re a lot
more difficult to play and I took a lot
of practice but you’d be surprised how
quickly you figure it out when you have
to actually do it in front of people it
didn’t take too long but at the time
when we would quote I was quite a during
that we just finished the record and I
was freaking out because I was breaking
my voice every day
thanks so much together
