hi I’m Veronica with watchmojo.com and
today the x-15 are giving us the 101 on
shin splints what they are how to nurse
them and how to prevent them so what are
shin splints
shin splints is when the muscles in the
shin either the muscle in the front or
there’s one also in the back and it
starts to pull strongly on the bone that
it attaches to and when that happens it
causes irritation inflammation and
problems what’s the pain associated with
shin splints
usually it’s pain on on the front of the
shin often related to exercise so if
there’s an exercise where you’re running
jumping or something repetitive with a
lot of impact that tends to irritate
shins who often gets these absolutely
anyone can get you in Spencer it tends
to be more athletes that the two that
kind of come to mind are basketball
players where there’s a lot of jumping
and running around or long-distance
runners as well they’ll have a lot of
shin splints where they run in a
repetitive impact motion do your running
shoes play a role at all in getting shin
splints if a foot is used to having a
new very sort of supportive shoe then
once the shoe wears down and the foot
doesn’t have that support or cushioning
then the foot may may stand to get or
become vulnerable to shin splints now
when I get tunes once I often try to run
through the pain is that smarter am I
making it worse if you’re running
further and you find the day after it’s
really irritated then maybe you’ve done
too much if it maybe just lasts a few
seconds and then goes away and there’s
no problems afterward maybe it’s
something that you are strengthening so
it’s a delicate balance then once you’re
suffering from shin splints how can you
ease the pain
things like icing perhaps even
therapists something that would help
relieve right away but also in terms of
a medium or long term that’s where you
want to try and correct the reasons why
those shin splints are happening is
there a way to prevent them we’re gonna
try to show you some exercises that will
strengthen and stretch tibialis anterior
and tibialis posterior to the main
muscles that are affected by shin
splints oh thank you very much guys
you’re welcome
