this is CT more for watchmojo.com and
today we’re gonna be talking to shell
Israel shells in town he’s on a
book-signing tour for his latest book
twitter ville let’s go see what she’ll
has to say about the digital world so
the books called Twitter Ville is this
really a book that’s all about Twitter
I’m a storyteller you know what I’ve
done what Twitter is I have looked at a
lot of stories most of them in business
that I thought were really interesting
really compelling and there were lessons
to learn both pro and con it’s called
Twitter ville because despite the fact
that Twitter is larger than any city on
earth is growing faster than any
megalopolis on earth the way it works
makes it feel very much like a small
town in terms of connecting with
consumers do you think a channel like
Twitter actually has value for brand to
reach out to consumers and build
relationships with them we start almost
everything with simple conversations
nice day boy the maple leaves really did
it to the Bruins last week and somehow
whether this develops sometimes into
business sometimes it develops into
friendship sometimes it develops into a
really great conversation and nothing
happens sometimes you just exchange a
few words and go on Twitter works like
that the Brander comes in or market or
PR person comes in and all they’re doing
is approaching Twitter Ville as if they
had a marketing bayonet in their teeth
it isn’t going to work real well but if
you see it as a way to talk and to
listen and to learn and respond you’re
going to find it very valuable as a
business person the matter what size of
the matter what topic of business covers
how do you think the world of social
media is going to change when the kids
growing up with it right now and to the
workforce and start becoming consumers
themselves when they come to the
workplace they’re going to use the tools
they know to do the job they have and
those tools are gonna be social media
tools I see a day where the new employee
will come in
be given a desk a computer a telephone
an email account password sequence code
and that will include their password for
Twitter Facebook Flickr and so on down
the line they’ll have a blog account and
then they’re going to be trusted by the
enlightened employer to use the tools
that they have been given to do the job
they need to do so what about the
possibility of social media exhaustion
do you think there’s gonna reach a point
where the average user or consumer just
becomes outright cynical with the way
people are trying to connect with them
online I think this excitement we feel
is going to go away can you imagine me
trying to write a book about why you
should use email for business when the
tools will change over time but the
concept that we can speak with people
all over the world about things that
interest us that’s what the values
