he’s been on the R&B seen since 2002 and
with each new album he evolved as an
artist hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome to watchmojo.com our host Malik
got the chance to sit down with shawn
desman to learn more about how the music
industry has changed since he first
started out as an artist so since your
first album how long has it been like
eight years it’s a different day man
where records you know we’re going
platinum you know I don’t want to say
pretty easily but I mean now it’s it’s
tough for a record to go platinum at
it’s a new game you know even in 2005 of
my second record came out there was no
Twitter there’s no facebook I think
itunes was just getting introduced to
the world and now it’s like I’m
constantly reminding myself that ok I
need to tweet I gotta let the fans know
what’s going on I gotta get on my
Facebook fan page and I mean I think
it’s great it’s it’s new for me and I’m
still getting my sea legs on but gives
the fans a chance to really interact
really feel like they’re part of the
process and let them know what’s going
on you know saying we’re before we
didn’t they didn’t have that
Oh
get it a day where people don’t know
it’s the music business what’s the most
important part of the business aspect
for you I think getting out there
getting your face out obviously is one
staying humble staying cool staying
grounded obviously putting great music
out obviously if you if you’re able to
write you know and produce your own
records i really recommend that
obviously because nobody knows what you
want more than you do you know I’m
saying and really just being strong in
what you believe in that like if this
the record i want to put out this
directed i want to put out Matt and I’m
proud of this record and if people don’t
get it if it’s a flop whatever I believe
in this record but also being able to
take other people’s criticism and other
people’s feedback you know I’m saying I
think at first I was kind of hesitant at
that especially in my songwriting where
if I’d be working with people they shoot
out an idea and I was quick to shut it
down if I wasn’t really feeling it as
this time around I was like you know
what I’m gonna roll with stuff and just
see where it goes you know Sam because
sometimes you know you’re not feeling
something at the beginning but then you
get into it you’re like okay I actually
this is a good idea you know I’m saying
shawn desman business 101 you know boom
leaving the sun in disgrace no sauce so
there’s no collaborations but throw your
career you haven’t done many
collaborations why is that I don’t think
we’re doing it on purpose to be honest I
just feel like if we’re gonna do a
collaboration it’s got to make sense you
know I’m saying for both myself and the
other artists you know I mean and
talking of collaborations before I left
Toronto to go on tour was it was in the
studio with my brother and we have a
song together on his new record called
feel it and I think it’s gonna be his
second single so I’m really really
excited about that people been asking me
like non-stop when you’re gonna do
something with your brother winning and
do something with the brother so it’s
finally coming and probably head on the
road with it maybe like it next year so
man it’s gonna be awesome
it’s not really a competition between me
and him you know I’m saying like I get
his feedback he gets my feedback and
we’re honest you know I’m saying and
that’s doesn’t there’s enough room in
the world for Shawn and Danny you know I
mean
Oh
I
of course we can’t overlook your fashion
no stick it gives a little or no fashion
supras on I got diesel diesel hooks me
up man you know whatever is comfortable
man to me I don’t care what it is you
know I mean these are new tattoos right
this one is the newest 1i got this was a
spacey a microphone here in the middle
and it says music is my life with stars
and music notes this was five hours of
pain let me tell you is it finishing a
close no this one’s fit color it and
forget that oh man makes me wanna say
where do you see shawn desman the shawn
desman brand in five years I mean
there’s gonna come to date where I’m not
gonna be able to jump up on stage and be
dancing around like I’m doing now you
know I’m saying we’re all getting older
the limbs ain’t what they used to be
yeah I mean but I can always pick up a
pen write a song so i’ll always be doing
that you know i mean go on Iran my
mother camera and look tired holding up
the cameras I know you gotta go do sound
check you know what I mean but I’m
wouldn’t wanna say to your fans guys man
just honestly it’s it’s been a long time
it’s been eight years SD fans are loyal
fans and I truly believe that if you
keep the fans happy then they’re happy
and they stay with you know I’m saying
you know big shadow to Malik he’s always
been there since the beginning man i
really appreciate it bro all right good
luck and even baby
