side together side together so far so
good yeah all right so face it you know
you want to take a salsa class salsa
basically is a term for the Latin
dancing that is very popular right now
hi welcome to watchmojo.com I’m your
host Ashley and tabi the pleasure to
speak to a world-class salsa dancer
who’s going to tell us all we need to
know about salsa if you can walk you can
dance you can talk you can sing fitness
program it’s very true when it comes to
dancing if I knew it’s also which
classes should I take and are they all
the same well we as teachers always
suggested start with the dances are a
little bit easier such as merengue and
then we suggest salsa bachata they both
actually come from Dominican Republic
and they’re very Caribbean style very
relaxed and people get easily involved
into that and then there’s a salsa there
are syncopations that are involved in
the beat that cha-cha-cha and the salsa
are the ones that resemble the most to
each other and then there’s bachata and
merengue that are grouped together the
same elements of dance moves you can
incorporate into either or but there are
done at different temples I would think
that people should start off with many
much at that first and then experience
salsa and then going to touch a check
can you dance solo or do you need a
partner to dance with parts of the bands
you can do solo but generally you do
need a partner some people you know they
go take the lessons without a partner
and in the classes there are other
people also have no partners if you want
it or not you and you’re gonna end up
with a partner how long does it take to
learn salsa it doesn’t take that much
some people can do it within a year and
the people get surprised when I tell
them that but then when they see the
results exactly what happens come
experience it from the beginning before
you know it you know people ask you to
dance left right and center let’s go
first thing to do is just listen to the
beat what we call montuno beat want to
know beat it’s kind of like you know
when you go to a club and you listening
to some music and on your own
automatically start doing this you
bought one and two one and two and
and and to keep that going the feet know
what to do okay just listen to the music
then you start grooving so as long as
the feet are moving the body is feeling
the groove then I tell people all right
people instead of tapping on the side
like this tap behind it the foot tap and
step tap and stir this is what we call
the Cuban basic which is opening step
opening step tapping what that does is
that you’re not transferring your weight
fully because momentum starts picking up
as we do this step okay we can let go
and catch the hand and let go and catch
and and go and catch keep your arms in
front of you with the right foot you’re
gonna increase momentum so the guy can
rotate you come off to the side and then
bring you right back out right and back
in step back and step back come out and
the last thing I tell this is the
easiest one but just when people get
really involved into it watch what
happens and back gain step okay one more
time back and step stop right there and
then I tell them leave back and say
hello to the camera
