if you thought you liked store-bought
marshmallows wait till you try the
homemade kind hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome to watchmojo.com and today we’ll
be showing you how to make your very own
marshmallows so for this recipe you’ll
need 1 cup of cold water 3/4 ounce
envelopes of unflavored gelatin 2 cups
of granulated sugar one cup of light
corn syrup a quarter teaspoon of salt 2
teaspoons of pure vanilla extract and
three to four cups of icing sugar start
by preparing your pen grease a 9 by 13
inch baking dish and then line the
bottom with parchment paper then sift
about three tablespoons of icing sugar
in a layer on the bottom
for half a cup of the cold water into
the bowl of your mixer and then sprinkle
the gelatin overtop wait 15 minutes
until the gelatin softens
while your gelatin is getting ready pour
the corn syrup sugar the rest of the
water and the salt into a heavy-bottomed
saucepan and over medium heat stir it
with a wooden spoon until it comes to a
boil
when it starts to boil place the lid on
the pot to let any remaining sugar
crystals melt when that’s done take off
the lid increase the heat to high and
boil it without stirring until it
reaches 240 degrees Fahrenheit you can
keep track of the temperature using the
candy thermometer and when that’s done
remove the whole thing from the heat
using a whisk attachment turn your mixer
on to low speed and then pour the candy
into the gelatin
gradually increase the speed until you
get to high speed and then keep beating
until the mixture is tripled in size and
is thick and stiff which should take
about ten minutes then add the vanilla
extract and beat for another thirty
seconds
now using a greased spatula scrape your
mixture into your prepared pan and
smooth it out as best you can
if you want colored marshmallows drop a
few drops of food coloring onto it and
then use a skewer to make swirl shapes
now sift another layer of icing sugar
over the top and leave them to set for
12 hours
when your marshmallows are set remove
them from the pan and place them on a
workspace that has been covered in icing
sugar then cut them into shapes using a
knife scissors of pizza wheel or even
cookie cutters
while your marshmallows are still sticky
decorate the sides with more icing sugar
sprinkles or crushed up candies
try making different flavored
marshmallows by adding different
extracts like peppermint or almond they
can be served in s’mores melted into
rice krispie treats or toasted over a
romantic fire
