River Surfing With Musician Donavon Frankenreiter

hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with pro surfer and singer Donovan
Frankenreiter about river surfing what
are some characteristics do you think
that crossover between your two kind of
different parts of your personality
juice
I don’t know it’s like surfing and music
are similar in a lot of ways because
they’re always forever changing like
nothing’s ever the same you know every
day I get up and play music I don’t get
up and go here we go again you know same
thing it’s always something new you
never know what’s going to happen cuz
it’s live and its strings could break I
could forget the words you know so many
crazy things happen on stage the same
thing happens what’s going on surf trips
are trying to find waves you could go to
a surf spot people could tell you how
good it is but then you go there forever
and you just you try to get it good but
it never gets good you know you’re
always searching for that best wave so
that’s kind of what keeps for me the
excitement level really high and surfing
that in music you never up playing music
or going surfing going on here we go
again it’s going to the same old way
where it’s going to be the same old
concert Zoe something new
when you’re touring do you get to go out
on the water at all we’ve been on the
east coast for a while so we surfed in
Nantucket and Montauk and down in Asbury
Park in New Jersey and we’re going to go
surfing tomorrow here in Montreal the
standing wave in the river so I can’t
wait for that I’ll be one of the first
times riding a wave in a river tell us
all about it how’d you enjoy the river
so uh it was a lot of fun really fun
people help me out teach me how to do it
but I took me five or six times to
actually get a wave and actually stand
up it’s pretty hard at first don’t you
know it’s a lot different but what a
great scene over here it’s sort of like
a little beach and a wave inside the
middle of a city at school how is it
different from traditional surfing
what’s weird is that you just kind of
stand there and and you’re not really
going anywhere just the water’s moving
below you but that’s just the one thing
that’s a little different that you just
you’re like in one spot and waters just
move and below you really fast
have you ever seen anything like this
elsewhere I’ve seen photos of people
riding waves in Oregon and South Africa
and you know people do it all the time
all over the world
thank you very much yeah thank you had a
great time I look into your brown
