Patrick Roy’s life and career

rarely is there a sports hero without
controversy and legendary goaltender
Patrick wat is no exception hi I’m
Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with his father Michelle voix about his
book Patrick what winning nothing else
so tell us about when you first realized
that Patrick was going to be big quite
late actually it was not until he was
called by the sherbrooke Canadians and
played for them to win the collar cup in
the American League he had already been
drafted by the Montreal Canadiens but
it’s not until this time that we we
started to think that maybe it could
make it big life for celebrities can be
somewhat of a fishbowl you know
everyone’s looking at but what about for
you and your family I became Patrick was
father and my wife became Patrick was
mother and the same for his brother and
sister and so on you sort of lived
through another person for a while it’s
a bit frustrating at times because you
know I thought that I did some pretty
good things on my own and but it was
always Patrick was father why did you
choose to write this book yourself as
opposed to having somebody else ready
well I guess the main reason is that I
love writing and I felt I could do it
and I really felt that nobody else could
write it the way I could because I lived
through that gone through that i really
put on my biographers hats i surrounded
myself with people who would read each
chapter as i would write them to tell me
if the father got in there too much you
know and so I think I achieved that that
goal of making a biography that is
objective about Patrick now I think it’s
safe to say that patrick has a big
personality let’s say that do you think
that a big personality and being a Top
Sportsman go ahead
it creates problems at times they get to
be in a fishbowl as superstars
everything is amplified everything they
say everything they do he’s a person
that is very direct he doesn’t beat
around the bush he really likes to say
what he thinks what he says so the two
together they’re explosive yes the way
you left Montreal just the start with it
was an unfortunate situation I really
believe that the organization of the
time chased him out of Montreal for some
reason maybe they felt it was time for
him to go I don’t know that evening the
coach tried to humiliate him in front of
all these people we’ve been shown many
times on television the time when he
raised his arms up because the people
were mocking him and this is one of the
instance i think that was blown out of
proportion only did really is is an act
of frustration because people were
mocking him which Patrick Stanley Cups
would you say means most to you each cup
meant something the first one came too
soon because he had won the calder cup
in the american league the year before
we still have the taste of champagne
from the year before and then there he
goes and he wins the stanley cup we
couldn’t really appreciate it and then
there was a 93 cup which came after a
season where he had his ups and downs it
meant something because of that he sort
of redeemed himself of course the 96 cup
after he left montreal the way he left
montreal he called it a cup of dignity
and it was important because of that and
then the two thousand one cup i called
it a cup of friendship all the team 14
memo book he had been in the league for
20 years one of the best defenceman ever
without having a chance to win the
Stanley Cup so they wanted for EM in
2001 so every Cup really had something
different but something important as
well
