he and his partner were nominated for an
Oscar for one of their first films and
for their next project worked with
legendary actress Meryl Streep hi I’m
Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com we got the chance to speak
with director Chris lavis about his work
his influences and his earlier
productions why don’t you tell us about
the origins of your production house
matchick and i started working together
in 1997 we were friends and we liked
working together and really we like
hanging out so we got a studio to share
and then pretty soon we kept putting our
hands on each other’s projects and
really liked the result to half brains
added up to one and a half brains you
know and I gave us an advantage neither
of you studied filmmaking in university
no magic studied theatre and theater
design but no film and I I went to an
arts high school and that’s where it
ended why don’t you tell us more about
higgledy-piggledy pop do you have
experience experience experience we’ve
never done the dialogue before we’d
worked with actors we put we’ve kind of
done these things where we was hybrid
actors and miniature sets but in a very
tiny scale and some of our previous work
never hurt but then it was a big leap
for us and shaping a perform to shaping
a vocal performance was a would never
ever done that and have your first
having the first vocal performance you
ever have to shape the Meryl Streep’s is
both a nightmare and
it’s an experience you won’t forget one
eggs experience is enough for me what
influences your filmmaking most I don’t
know our filmmaking is discussion I
think magic and I loved we like to talk
we r we still even though we’ve been
working together for so long and we
don’t always were like an old married
couple at this point but we still enjoy
each other we still don’t I debate and
debate and conversation and bringing our
experience to that and going up for
beers is still the fuel of the whole
process for us what attracts you to a
specific project and also what are your
upcoming projects well I think we heard
a quote I don’t remember who was by the
cycle the person who inspires us most is
our producer which is like that idea
I yeah I don’t know we have we have a
feature film that we’ve been working on
for a long time now we’ve been
developing a script forever and that’s
sort of it seems to be on fertile ground
right now and it’s an interesting sort
of a yet it’s a sorry we really love and
it’s called the white circus I think
hopefully that’ll be the next one thank
you very much my pleasure
