Monster Trucks: Black Stallion

it’s been described as figure skating
with pickup trucks
I don’t know hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome to watchmojo.com and today we’re
speaking with Mike Potter’s the driver
of black stallion what can you tell us
about the history of monster trucks and
how its evolved a monster truck started
believe it or not on the streets lifted
high pick up trucks and it just evolved
it you know who can be the bigger you
could get bigger tires clear back in the
early seventies is when the trucks in
the streets with bigger tires and like
myself with bikes died and we drove on
the streets of Hagerstown Maryland and
we actually got our truck so I of the
cops told me here they’re gonna have to
take it off the road or lower it and I
wasn’t about to lower it so I took it
off the street and put larger tires and
then before we knew it you know we
pretty much had a monster truck now what
can someone who’s never been to a
monster truck show expect to see a lot
of high-flying action a lot of
destruction
everything you see on the floor is going
to end up being destroyed before the
nights out and pleading probably a
couple of the trucks will be rolled over
and keeps yelling at your seat tell me
about the freestyle event freestyle is
where each truck comes out and they have
between 60 and 90 seconds to do the best
move they can on all the obstacles if
you come over a set of cars and land and
pull it wheelie and ride a wheelie the
farthest if you roll and come back up on
your wheels and keep going whoever does
a better job they get through the votes
for the you know to win freestyle have
you ever rolled your truck oh yeah
several times I’ve rolled here what’s
the toughest move you’ve ever pulled off
actually jumping over another monster
truck in Reverse now tell us about your
truck it’s a 2007 it’s all custom-built
it’s been on the drawing board for about
four years and it took us about eight
months to actually build it
the engines of 572 cubic inch Ford
big-block Ford blow and alcohol injected
the place for 2000 horsepower the
transmission is a regular c6 which goes
into a transfer case which drops down
which has where the shafts come out and
go back to the front and the rear and
the brakes are actually on the pinion
which runs right through the reduction
actually all the blue frame that you see
basically come to my shop and a truck
and a big pile of steel I have my shops
custom built in California to my specs
all the foiling bars that you see that
are Chrome we built all that we pretty
much built everything
