Mojo Reacts – Walking Dead Season 8 Finale

hi I’m Annie and welcome to mojo talks

where today we’re breaking down the

season finale of The Walking Dead are

people still watching it I can tell you

for sure that there is two people in the

office still watching it and they’re

with me today I’d like to introduce Matt

the adequate host of the cinephiles

and Mike the host of nothing I’m Neil so

guys Walking Dead Season 8 has come to a

wrap it’s been a long and kind of like

exciting trip to it arduous arduous so

what are our thoughts what are what are

we thinking let’s do a quick little

recap of the season very quick though

let me start this off sure what’s to

talk about

so I was super pumped with the end of

season 7 where the Alexandrian they come

together with the kingdom and all them

and they fight back against vegan vegan

gets in his truck and drives away

yeah flips the bird which is classic

Meighan and then he has all of his

troops and he’s like we’re going to war

boys and you’re like oh man they’re

gonna murder the Alexandria’s there’s no

way they’re outnumbered like 10 to 1 the

season starts the good guys are winning

they’re winning they trap him in his

little house there they shoot the

windows and was like a broken glass or

whatever they’re doing inside it just

drags it was just a postponed everything

so it’s a dragon the season was 16

episodes two of eight and eight I think

it should have been more condensed but

they’re not gonna do that it could have

been like Netflix where it’s tempest

ODEs and you binge it do you binge these

16 episodes you’re sleeping Matt are you

outside of Mike or you’re on the yeah

I’d agree with Mike um it was definitely

a snoozer of a season and especially you

know because it was such a snoozer was

like okay the finale they’re there

they’re coming out guns a-blazing and it

just wasn’t like that I honestly think

this episode this finale is the moment

the show just completely jump so you

think this is the moment where it’s in

so let’s get into this finale so the

finale is marketed it’s all negan versus

Rick yeah this is where it’s gonna go

down this is the episode everybody you

know like cancel your Sunday plans stay

in so for me rick has become kind of

like a likable terrible character it’s

like you understand him but it’s like

why are you making

all these stupid decisions now like ya

clean your act up yeah and negan’s

become a bit about bit the comedic

relief like they give him these terrible

dialogue these horrible one-liners which

Jeffrey the Morgan you execute

beautifully there’s no need that props

to you forgiving good like yeah but was

this episode what you were waiting for

was this like this is the I’m satisfied

I can’t wait I definitely say no Mike I

know no Minh on paper of what happened

it was kind of built up to be kind of a

battle of the bastards from Game of

Thrones which was every way and it was

just full flat it was totally flat where

they’re at the bottom of the hill

they’re surrounded then there’s like

that last-minute save and you’re like oh

what happened and you know nobody dies

which is really surprising this show is

all about characters dying yeah kill

anyone for the finale yeah there’s a

very little emotional impact in the

finale like I get what you’re saying the

kind of we’re hoping at least that the

comparison between this finale and the

walk and unstoppable like it would

happen you know on some level do you

find that your you guys are finding

yourselves a bit tired of these

characters are you emotionally detached

as the characters become a bit too much

like for me I think that all these

characters are playing characters of

what they were in past seasons like you

kind of don’t care about the arcs that

these characters are going through

anymore cuz they’re introducing so many

side profile care yeah that the main

characters tend to like and then those

characters die yes you don’t get

attached to any of these people so

you’re like okay so this guy died and it

bothered you but what does this do for

the show as a whole like are you I feel

like they’re giving you character

developing moments that don’t develop

the characters that actually move the

characters backwards well two things

first this was the chance to clean house

kill all the characters don’t cover

Gabriel has to go

I’m tired of Gabriel Eugene had to go

yeah I know they kind of gave him some

sort of like he’s back from the dark

side but he needs to go a lot of these

characters needs to go make it a tighter

show right and character and the ones

that are there they keep going in

circles Morgan for example you know life

is sacred I kill everybody with my stick

I slashed your throats for no reason

when they’re giving up life is sacred

like it keeps going back and forth that

where else can you go I don’t care where

else

could go the walking dead yeah which is

another mess of a story you’re not gonna

get into that exactly but they tried to

do like a expanded universe where like

they kind of trail off we have cameos

from these still doing the circle thing

he’s like I don’t want to be around

people I gotta be around people young

people so there was another show I’m

around people that’s great basically

they took a bad character and put him in

a bad show so now we completely don’t

care about lead to the lead now it seems

like well I’m gonna be honest with you

guys I don’t watch for the walking dead

cuz it’s terrible and let’s move on so

the show comes to an end yeah and

something interesting happens with it

within the main characters right I’ll

leave that off to you what do you guys

think I think it went from a build up to

all-out war and like the posters were

more exciting than the actual war you

know where they’re all like yeah faces

yeah all that work and now it’s Civil

War right they got three characters they

got Maggie Jesus and Daryl and they’re

plotting against Rick which doesn’t make

sense well it makes sense for Maggie

because of what happened to Glenn Daryl

was a prisoner so it kind of makes sense

for him Jesus there’s no reason Jesus

would be at the table Jesus would yeah I

mean my thing it was sense to me the

reason why they’re bringing in Jesus I

think is because he’s rapidly becoming

one of the one of the favorites like

fans kind of just like him

they kind of just like this character

yeah a little bit mysterious he’s always

like oh I’m in a bind

but I can get out of this ain’t no

problem but it’s weird because they’ve

built this character up to be almost

like literally like a Jesus like oh I

love people so much we don’t always have

to kill them there are other ways we can

live together and I feel that that was a

big issue in this season and especially

the season finale is just so many

characters we’re flip-flopping between

like ideologies over and over and over

again you know and I think that among

other reasons in the finale is why the

show would jump the shark because like

you mentioned you have Maggie you have

Jesus and you have Daryl who’s like by

far the most favorite of the whole show

they’re like plotting what some would

say like murder against Rick and

Michonne because they let negan live and

I just feel like yes I agree that that

having this Civil War thing kind of

makes sense just so that the show goes

in a different direction

which I liked but the fact that these

guys are such a tight-knit family like

literally they’re a family now but now

you have these three

we’re gonna potentially kill the leader

who helped you through this whole thing

that’s a huge problem I have with the

walking dead is these back and forth

kind of like disgusting character

development moments right yeah so you

have Rick who’s been almost like a a

brother to Daryl throughout the whole

show and he’s like you’re my real

brother I feel it yeah we have a

crazy-cool bond and then you have Maggie

who has kind of always looked up to Rick

after she lost her father and he’s like

okay Rick is gonna steer us in the right

way

yeah I get it you lost Glen and Daryl

you know it’s like I get it you were

tortured I understand these things but I

doubt them going up against Rick

justifies a good development of their

characters I’m not some kind of like you

know like crazy writer but I just find

like that that for me was like the final

nail in the coffin because I’m like I’ll

give the season finale a chance maybe

it’ll get me back into the show but when

I saw that I’m like oh so I don’t know

where we’re just going against Rick

right yeah okay cool that’s fine I’m not

down with it and that’s what completely

detachment from the show yeah I didn’t

read it that they’re gonna try to kill

Rick they’ll try to marginalize them or

get him out like you know it is Judith

they’re not gonna yeah they’re so tight

I didn’t read it that way I think Rosita

should’ve been at the table instead of

Jesus because she has a beef for Abram

yeah I rewatched the episode where Glenn

and Abram get their head smashed in

after that finale and I’m like your

Bloods boiling as a fan there’s no way

they would forgive that like I

understand their motivations totally but

if it does involve overthrowing Rick and

potentially killing him and I just think

that’s absolutely absurd so here we are

okay let’s let’s wrap this up so pretty

much the Walking Dead it is what it is

it’s gonna go on forever it has its own

spin-off show has its own talk show

season 9

I’m completely attached I gave season 8

a chance I gave the finale a chance I’m

gone I’m out here’s my question to you

guys are you guys still in cuz you’re

only gonna have yourselves talk about it

with so you guys gotta figure out so

either you guys stay on it together as

much as I don’t agree with this kind of

Civil War thing I do feel it’s like a

very fresh take on on the story because

it’s just it’s not like Oh new group

finds their home and tries to steal it

you know so it’s like

nice fresh take on it I’m gonna give it

another shot

you get another shot it’s been eight

seasons that I’ve been with it so it’s

like it feels it feels weird if I were

to stop now you know it’s long in the

tooth it’s the eighth season but I could

give it one more season if they go on

more than one season I’m out have one

season where they’re trying to rebuild

make all their windmills and all that

stuff

deal with the negan thing deal with the

Rick thing and how you know they don’t

agree with them I’ll keep watching I

have my cable box so so you’re committed

you already said your AMC all the way

commit you’re kind of like I’m in it now

we’re gonna keep going and I’m out guys
