names like Lisa Kent and daria werbowy
we’re going to be talking with one of
their agents Antonella to find out what
a modeling career is really about what
does an agency do exactly for model well
it agency represents the model they are
the one that is in between the client
and the the model so they protect the
model in the sense that they take care
of all of the negotiations once the
model gets the job we build the career
of the model here starting off with
testing at the beginning I’m sending her
out to the clients and then later on
sending their pictures to international
agencies whether it be Paris Milan Japan
wherever how does a model go about
getting an agent in the first place if
you’re starting out what do you do the
girls can come in or the guys can come
in on an open house which we have every
tuesday between three and five so they
walk in we ask them to bring two
photographs with them obviously we talk
about the height i mean the girls have
to be between 5-8 and six foot maximum
and guys are like 5-10 minimum just to
like 62 and they come in and they bring
us their photographs let me take a look
at what they have quite often we take
Polaroids of them as well or digital’s
and we take a look at them as a team and
at that point we decide if they’re
photogenic and they have the
characteristics that they go with
modeling outside of the physical aspects
what are some other attributes that you
think would help to make a model
successful a good business mind so they
know that you know they’re good with the
clients you know they’re very
professional and the job they arrive on
time all those sorts of things what
kinds of disbursements are expected of a
model when she’s starting out but as far
as investment is concerned certainly
they do need to invest in a photo shoot
a first photo shoot with photographer
makeup artist and a stylist usually runs
anywhere between four hundred to five
hundred and fifty dollars and that is
her tool for her work so right if she
doesn’t have any photographs obviously
it’s impossible for her for her to work
and then from there you know with a
couple of pictures we send them to clone
and they usually pick up a job here and
there and then they start accumulating
their money how can a model avoid
certain scams how can she tell the
difference between a legitimate agency
and one that’s maybe not so legitimate
do your homework go check it out check
out the Better Business Bureau check it
out the agency on the on the internet
make sure that it is an agency that has
a good reputation that’s been in
business for quite a while if you’re not
sure call some of the other agencies
call ourselves i often get phone calls
from mothers or girls or guys saying you
know i was approached by this fellow and
he has this agency and what do you think
is it a good agency or what not
