Megadeth’s Chris Broderick on Gigantour, Big 4

this heavy metal band is considered one
of the big four of thrash metal
alongside Metallica anthrax and slayer
hi I’m Rebecca Braden and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with Chris Broderick of Megadeth about
touring and teaching guitar
so last time we spoke was on Gigantor in
2008 and now we’re back on Gigantor so I
guess the question is why the long break
well we were tired and we didn’t feel
like doing anything so just it’s really
one one of those things where I’m sure
it’s all about scheduling you know where
you have other packages come up and
other potential tours things of that
nature so I don’t know that Gigantor was
ever intended to be a yearly thing but
you know with things like the big for
South American tours and stuff like that
it definitely didn’t have any
opportunity to do that so this year 2012
we’re back
how is it like being back on a tour like
this it’s cool because whether you’re a
headliner or you’re you know support or
something like that they all kind of
have their advantages in different ways
definitely the advantage of being a
headliner is the fact that you know you
get time to make sure your gear is set
up correctly everything sounds the way
you want it to sound lights look good
you’ve got a little bit more time to to
make sure that the show you’re going to
present is going to be good
so the big four shows tell us what those
really it’s undescribable really if I
think back to some of the visuals that I
have from from Warsaw Poland or from the
New York Yankee Stadium show it’s
unbelievable to see the all the fans out
there you know all the people just
cheering and roaring so it wasn’t only
that but it was also just all four bands
coming together and really making a
statement about thrash metal in general
do you think we’ll ever see a tour like
that anytime soon I mean I could
definitely see it in my hat but it’s not
up to me unfortunately so as a fan I
would definitely want it to happen as
much as anybody else but like I said
it’s not in my hands stuff gets in the
way okay well yeah I mean there’s so
many logistics involved in putting
something like that together so
now if I’m not mistaken you did a guitar
retreat so won’t you tell us a bit about
that and kind of what you were hoping
people would take from it it was a
week-long guitar retreat with alex
skolnick of testament and myself and we
got together and what we wanted to do
was have like this this retreat where
people who attended could kind of come
in take some classes with each of us
individually and together as well and
also jam with us at the end of the night
and really kind of take away how we view
the instrument and you know how we
approach it both theoretically and
technically and also you know
psychologically so during the course of
the week you know I would give two
classes and Alex would give two classes
a day and then at the end of the night
we’d all come together on Jam
pre-selected songs have the end the
individuals come up and play with us so
yeah it’s like rock and roll fantasy
camp well it was a little bit of that
but I think also a little bit of it was
like rock over rock and roll fantasy
camp meets college yeah is what I like
awesome thank you very much sure
you
