he was cut from the 2009 Canadian world
junior hockey team but Matt Duchene made
his presence in the sport known and was
finally chosen third in the 2009 NHL
entry draft by the colorado avalanche hi
I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and we got the chance to
speak with duchesne before he was
drafted so how important is it to you to
be chosen number one not really actually
obviously it’d be a great honor my goal
is to be mentioned and considered for
that pic going that pic is over my
control and it’s not something that I’ll
I’ll be upset about if it doesn’t happen
but it’s a huge honor to be mentioning
that that those guys to our fans in
Colorado we are proud to select from the
brampton battalion of the Ontario Hockey
League Matt Duchene yeah you managed to
get on the radar pretty quickly how
would you say that you match that well I
think I was right there I was on the
brink of it for a while and just had a
few things not quite together yet and I
was able to do that right after
Christmas I think I getting cut from the
world junior team actually really helped
me with that they really help me just
toughen up and mentally and add some
different dimensions to my game so I get
that a lot of credit and how much do you
compete against yourself versus the
other guys I think with myself more I
set high goals for myself and a lot of
times I don’t achieve them but I think
and learned just so much for not
achieving them as achieving them now who
were your hockey heroes growing up Joe
Sakic Peter Forsberg just recently as
those guys kind of finished off the
career Jonathan tave City penalty you
mentioned in the press conference that
you may consider designing equipment I’m
a pretty creative guy and I used to do
it back when some of the new stuff start
coming out I started taking interest in
I took art all the way through school so
I was always drawn stuff and designing
new looks to stuff and I think if I
hadn’t been a hockey player than a
graphic designer so and something that’s
no I might get the opportunity actually
do thank you very much yeah thanks
