it’s about the performers but mainly
fringe is all about discovery hi I’m
Veronica with watchmojo.com and today
we’re going to learn how to fringe so
what exactly is a French festival well
they’re fringe festivals all around the
world and they’re kind of different in
each place the first one was in
Edinburgh started in 1947 abroad artists
in from all over the place and the
Edinburgh artists were like what about
us so they just started doing the shows
anyway at the same time journalists are
to refer to it as the festival fringe so
your participant in fringe festivals
what would your title be I’m here as an
actor mainly it’ll also be hosting the
fringe for all that’s happening this
evening to all the companies that have
traveled from out of town to be here so
what kind of shows can you expect at a
fringe festival by its very nature at a
fringe festival you could expect just
about anything because there’s no
artistic direction if somebody wanted to
just sit there pet turtle on a stool and
let the audience watch that for an hour
they could do it if they wanted to
we’ve had titles in the past like the
happy young Hitler live sex show
llamas Hamlet in the voices of the
Simpson characters and then touring the
world with it for 10-12 years my big fat
greek wedding was a show that premiered
at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival puppets
who killed a beaut here really any kind
of exciting performance you could want
is happening here at the framers there’s
bands there’s theater this comedy is
everything it’s basically like a series
that runs over a full week so there’s
kind of running gags that build up to a
massive climax in the second to last
show tradition involves I feel like
people who support the fringe are more
rabid in their support of it than
supporters of most other festivals I
find
that’s the best part of the fringe
festival probably the best part is just
being able to see so many different
shows from me personally it has to do
with the whole community around it
people can follow their personal
curiosities toward shows that are
interesting to them personally as
opposed to what should be interesting
they’re going to see what is interesting
for them
