Kentucky Wildcats vs Louisville Cardinals


the University of Louisville and
Kentucky University rivalry a strike
them by the fact that the schools are
both located in the state of Kentucky
however that’s not where the drama and
rivalry ends recently Rick Pitino added
fire to the rivalry one in 2001 he
accepted the head coaching job at the
University of Louisville from nineteen
eighty nine to nineteen ninety-seven
Pitino had been at the helm of the
Kentucky program however he is now known
to many UK faithfuls as trader Rick the
rivalry traces its roots to the early
20th century as the two schools battle
that out many times in a decade however
even despite their proximity the two
schools only competed three times
between 1922 and 1983 the rivalry was
renewed in full force on March 26 1983
in their first game against each other
in over 20 years the teams met up in the
elite eight round of the NCAA tournament
with Louisville outlasting the Wildcats
in overtime since then the teams have
played much more regularly the Kentucky
Wildcats hold the upper hand with a 26
to 13 record all-time over the Cardinals
as of 2008 the Wildcats have
participated in 13 NCAA Final Fours and
have 17 championships placing them
second behind only UCLA in terms of
championships won while not as
successful louisville has still made it
to eight Final Fours winning two
championships both stats that ranked
them amongst the great college
basketball programs
