James Cameron’s Avatar: Stereoscopic 3D Game Design

it has to do with perception if you’re
told to expect something that’s what
you’re going to see so you have to see
beyond that hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome to watchmojo.com and today were
at Ubisoft to learn more about James
Cameron’s Avatar the game could you tell
us more about the plot that’s a game you
start the game and you’re kind of
arriving on this incredible planet
Pandora as Abel Rider you’re a signal
specialist so you’re kind of getting
into the world and coming to grips with
this new place that you’re discovering
as you enter the avatar program as a
member of the RDA the resource
development administration kind of human
component on the planet you’ll be forced
into a situation that’s a little bit
awkward you’re working for this
corporation on the planet but as an
avatar you’re also getting to know you
know a few of the natives on the planet
the Navi so you find yourself in some
slightly sticky situations
at which point you’ll have to make what
we call the choice you can play the game
as an RDA
trooper but you can play the game as an
avatar you have two choices so there are
no good guys and bad guys
depending on the choice you make you get
a different game how closely did the
team work with the team involved in the
movie with James Cameron James Cameron
and Jon Landau and the entire team at
Lightstorm were really good about
meeting us if it being LA coming here to
Montreal we met with them in New Zealand
in Paris as well so we really got a
chance to be with them quite often be on
the set or just have them here in the
studio to contribute hand in hand with
the creative process so I’d say very
closely can you tell us more about the
3d stereoscopic technology 3d is a great
part of the game because as a gamer it
really puts you in the situation you
know all video games are in 3d but that
stereoscopic 3d really pulls away and
separates the elements so that you feel
an atmosphere around you you see things
coming from far from close and have an
idea of how what those relationships are
in space
would you say this represents the future
in 3d gaming it’s really an evolution of
3d as we’re bringing it to the home to
the living room we’ve probably all seen
some of the 3d movies especially an
animation that have come out recently in
theaters but we’re giving people an
opportunity to take that experience home
it’s really a HD experience but in 3d is
this technology available across
consoles and on different television
sets in order to be 3d enabled order or
to take the game and augment it to 3d
you’re gonna want to have a 3d enabled
television so there are a lot of models
of TVs some DLP technology that’s been
out there for the past a little while
and there’s some new technologies that
are coming along that are quite nice as
well but otherwise you can run it on
your PC you can run it on your xbox or
on your Playstation 3 thank you very
much you’re welcome
