we’re speaking with Vivi Brown when did
you decide you wanted to be a musician I
decided I wanted to do music and be a
musician when I was about five I just
was really obsessed with my mum and
dad’s piano and I thought it was like a
brown spaceship and I remember being
intrigued by these three notes that I
kept playing over and over it was like a
cosmic thing that happened since then
I’ve always known that I was going to do
music what type of musical genres have
you experimented with and how would you
describe your music today I like to
describe my music that’s alternative pop
music because it doesn’t make me a slave
to a genre so say I definitely
experiment with a lot of music from the
50s as a little bit of punk and then bit
of reggae I mean it has a bit of
everything when my album is a great
cocktail of many different sounds
but I think for this particular album
especially the first one the heartbeat
of the record is very much a retro 50s
vibe
tell us a little bit about your new
album while travelling like the lie is
my baby
it was a project that came from such
humble beginnings I never thought that
I’d be traveling in the world talking
about my album with my lovely people
like yourselves
it was the project where I thought maybe
people would discover in a 7-inch vinyl
store or something I was deeply
depressed at the time when I was in LA
and I came back to the UK and I was very
liberated by being inspired by Europe
again I kind of started to believe in
love again because I was heartbroken the
album is about that moment in my life
when I was very sad but almost feeling
liberated because I was coming out of
there all the lyrics are very true to my
personality and it’s a very honest
record
