combining power-pop with inventive
post-hardcore sound their music is
distinctive hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome to watchmojo.com we got the
chance to check out warp tour and speak
with Blake from verse emerge
so we always like to start with the
origin stories of the bands that we
interview so why don’t you give us an
idea of how verse emerge got together
hmm this is a long story but I’ll make
it short in ninth grade I started
playing in a blues band that band turned
into another band I turned into another
band I turned into versa we had a male
vocalist at first Sierra who is our
current singer now actually found us on
myspace when we were holding auditions
for a singer she lived three hours away
from us at the time her mom would drive
her back and forth from practice three
hours there three hours back took her
out of high school let us go on tour
full time it’s not something a normal
mother would do that was the end of oh
seven then we toured 0809 and now we’re
here
what kind of music did you eat grow up
listening to and how do you think that’s
kind of come together to make the verse
emerge sound all of our influences are
insanely brought I think that kinds it
kind of comes into play though with our
sound because there’s I feel like our
sound is is deeper than just one genre
we’ve toured with metal bands we’ve
toured with pop bands it’s like trying
to make our own niche you know
I know a lot of Ben’s lately have been
really anti a genre at first we were a
little anti genre I think but now like
we feel really strongly just to call
ourselves like rock obviously it’s not
like typical but when people ask us we
say we’re a rock man
why do you think so many bands lately
have been so anti hashanah music is
getting so inbred for lack of a better
term you know a bands are being
influenced by all these hundreds of band
that they’re surrounded by and
everything is becoming very very much
the same I think it’s really important
for a band to kind of have influences
there may be left of center maybe a
decade before their time in order for it
to kind of be somewhat unique somewhat
original and kinda start that genre
cycle over again because chances are the
chords are playing have already been
played before and it wouldnt in that
same order you know it’s just you got to
kind of like have your influences like
in outer space and would you know come
off original nowadays
