Interview with The Used

this band style straddles a variety of
subgenres but they’re decidedly a rock
group hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome
to watchmojo.com and today we’re
speaking with they used
we often like to start with the origin
story of the bands that we interviewed
so why don’t you kind of give us the the
rundown of how the used originally got
together we got together in a house in
Utah about ten years ago well eight nine
ten years ago something we recorded some
songs just by ourselves and we went to a
Goldfinger concert and we gave their
singer John Feldmann our CD and he was
producing bands and he called us a few
days later and said I listened to it I
think it’s pretty good keep in touch so
about six months later we had you know
about 10 more songs and we sent that to
him and he says I want you to come to my
house so we flew out to LA recorded that
pretty much happened you know like a
fairy tale or something like that no I
mean it just happened so quick we
weren’t even a band for a year and we
were already getting signed it was weird
who did you all grow up listening to
individually and how do you think that
that’s kind of come together to make the
use and honestly it’s easier for me to
tell you what I hate and I never
listened to because I hate country music
I hate anything disney I hate Christmas
who is it I don’t like bluegrass I
respect some of that but I don’t like it
so that definitely did not influence me
at all ever how do you guys like to
describe or label your music original
good from the heart loud loud beautiful
sweet sexy sensuous sizzling satisfying
shitty sucky stupid silly dang good
the most recent album artwork is a
little darker than your other stuff what
would you say cause the shift I mean
coming into the record we got rid of our
management you know we switched
producers we just wanted to do what we
wanted to do you know not really get in
the studio and try and make hits and and
kind of play that game all the songs are
definitely different from each other but
they all kind of tie in with the sound
and even lyrically I think
the other cast
what do you think our today’s musicians
most important marketing tools well I
think with us it’s just the honesty that
you get you know I mean I think that’s
why the use has such a strong fan base
be honest and people will be able to
tell
on that note I will say thank you very
much kiss cool thank you thank you
