Interview with The Joy Formidable

this indie rock band knows how to make a
whole lot of noise
hi my name is Stephanie welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
to The Joy Formidable
alright well we like to start with the
origin stories of the band so is
wondering if you guys could let me know
how you got together me and rich you’ve
known each other a long time we grew up
together essentially in North Wales and
we had another band there’s a bag of
we ran away we went back to Wales
we started a new band that actually
meant something didn’t have psychopaths
in it and then we met math and then got
a new psychopath
how would you guys describe your sound
you know it’s ultimately about what the
message is what the cement deeper than
just the sounds for instance people do
tend to pick up on the sounds and this
you know this various nod subconsciously
to serve all kinds of stuff for us it’s
just good and bad music you know like
what he said ultimately it’s just that
it means something so it spawns a lot of
ground I mean that you’ve got you know
fragility as well as really loud noisy
aggressive elements so it’s difficult to
say I think you’ve summed it up
perfectly mr. Davis
from a live point of view from us on
stage I think something very committed
about when we go up there and we play
the tracks there’s a lot of connection
to the songs that we’ve written and
sometimes it you know it’s quite
emotionally schizophrenic how we
actually feel well as listen up
pontificate or bullshitty let’s just do
what everybody else does and say if
Philip Glass was to get into a fight
with Rupert the bear while mastodon was
stabbing him in the face you’d kind of
be close to what we saw a light group at
the bed well that’s why mustard on were
stabbing him in the face I’m wanting to
get on a baby so I hate
what would you guys say are your
influences are your inspiration very
varied you know music is is just good
and bad tours you know they certainly
has to mean something but that spans so
many genres genres is very secondary to
us and I think the album says that our
back catalog says that it was you know
so God anything from you know your
classic songwriter Springsteen Costello
to Motown 22 Raptor danced to rocco in
whatever I mean it’s just good artist
isn’t it you know but they ultimately
have to have intent behind them for for
me for us i think you know you do really
sniff the the vacuous tastemakers i’m
not interested in what the new taste is
you know I want so I want someone it’s
actually tell me something you know
different about life you know I don’t if
you can do that and entertain me as well
then I’ll give you a kind of Shandy you
know
well thank you so much guys question
thank you very thank you
