Interview with Set Your Goals

hey I’m Matt I’m Dan we’re in the van
set your goals and your watching
watchmojo.com these day area pop punkers
also have a hardcore edge hi I’m mahila
coleman with watchmojo.com and today
we’ll be speaking with set your goals
so tell us how did set your goals get
together well about five years ago
Jordan and I wanted to start a pop-punk
type of an in our area and there wasn’t
really one we recruited some of his
former bandmates dan here on guitar and
Mikey on drums and our friend Israel was
on base at the time just sort of stole
their van mates it was just for fun at
first and sort of snowballed to where it
is today
there’s two of you on vocals right what
are the pros and cons of that I mean it
is special the cons would be stage space
you know sometimes when we play smaller
clubs it’s hard to move around and we
bump into each other or you know other
members of the band but other than that
I think it’s a good dynamic live there’s
a lot more energy we have a lot more
going on onstage and when we record can
do a lot more vocally with harmonies and
layering and stuff like that
now let’s speak of it about your sound
right how would you describe it let’s
take two somebody’s grandmother are you
guys like hardcore punk pop punk how do
you call it we’re going to strive it to
somebody’s grandmother maybe we’ll just
say kind of sort of happy sounding fast
rock it’s the easiest way to do it it’s
fast and aggressive but you can
understand the words
so you guys come from the bay area right
do you stand out do you fit in over
there what’s the scene like first kids
weren’t very open-minded to it the bay
area is very I don’t want to say elitist
but very picky about their music and
they’ve definitely warmed up to us now I
mean I could say we play pretty much
anywhere in the bay area now and we’d
have a good-sized show but it wasn’t
always like that
me
how do you find that your sound like
evolved from the beginning up to now
it’s a little more serious we’ve had a
lot of time to just reflect back on our
time with the band and we have some
commentary on that yeah it takes a
little bit darker I think it’s a
definitely more improved set your goals
as far as song structures and stuff like
that go that everything has more of like
a normal verse chorus verse chorus kind
of structure to it which you know I
think it’s a little bit easier on the
ears easier to remember and I think
everything is just a lot catchy or two
well thank you very much thanks for the
interview Henry welcome
