this band makes music purely for the
enjoyment the fact that they’re changing
people’s perceptions about disabilities
is only an added bonus
hi I’m mihaela Coleman and welcome to
watchmojo.com today we’re speaking with
rudely interrupted
we’re rudely interrupted many times
it grew from a music therapy class that
I was holding for guys with differences
I met Rory because he’s a friend of
Mines son son I met him at a barbecue
when he’s younger brothers that come
under the fact that he had no eyes and
I’m trying to steal his food from his
plate so I sort of went over to help him
and you know start up a conversation and
a couple of weeks later I started a
music therapy class and little though I
know the talents that lay in his head
there somewhere
we sort of connected and wrote a song
called don’t break my heart which is a
sad song or happy song about sad times
don’t break my heart don’t break
I mean we didn’t started to take on the
world we started to take on these guys
worlds you know that happened to work so
we thought we’d take it to the world and
it seems to be working – can you tell us
who are the members of the band there’s
me I’m the rhythm guitarist and Rory’s
backup vocalist
correct and I play left-handed electric
guitar
well my start with the Asperger’s
because it’s the most challenging it
manifests itself in obsessing over
certain topics like times and that
school times for example and also it
causes me to misinterpret situations for
example when we do a rehearsal or a
soundcheck and it’s taking quote taking
longer than I think it should unquote I
misinterpret what is actually very a
very great importance as a waste of time
that is a tact I’m trying to shake and
slowly but surely I’m having success
correct
but wait there’s more I was born with a
bilateral cleft lip and palate so I’ve
had lots and lots and lots of facial
surgery and epilepsy and I don’t drink
alcohol like the others do I substitute
it with 7up we’ve got a drummer Josh
Hogan is amazing he has intellectual
differences and challenges and physical
challenges his bones don’t grow quite as
they should
Sammy a bass player who’s an
entertainment explosion he consoles
himself on gene Simmons and Sid Vicious
he has Down syndrome and he’s a show-off
Connie Tambourine human metronome she
has Down syndrome she’s also blind
Marcus on keyboards whose extraordinary
I mean he’s only got 50% hearing and you
know he manages to get over the line
whenever we play which is fantastic PSS
burgers as well is an amazing ability
just to sit slightly behind the
music in the band it gives it the human
element because if we’re right on the
beat and right on key all the time
it just sounds too mechanical – robotic
because you know a lot of lot of muses
use auto-tune and it just takes away
that human element it’s a bit of a cheat
some bands and songwriters like to use
it as an effect
Rory can actually physically do it and
you’ve said to Harry our sound guy the
other day said no after this verse I’m
just gonna sit slightly under the note
and this first I’m gonna sit slightly
above the night so it sounds more human
I mean to have that ability it’s most me
sighs dream together it makes out the
sound it makes us really interactive
