Interview with Pop Singer Eliza Doolittle

this quirky songstress is a breath of
fresh air hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome to watchmojo.com and today we’re
speaking with eliza doolittle
let’s start by having you tell us a bit
about your background and how that has
come to influence the music that you
made today I just always loved music was
singing all the time my brothers and
sisters would just tell me to shut up
because I was just singing all the time
and when I was about 12 I I said to my
mom I really want to be a pop singer
everyone in school always asked her we
want to be when you grow up and I would
always say a singer so it was kind of
about time I kind of put some action
into what I was saying and and she she
said start writing songs which is the
best advice I’ve ever had because when
you’re that age you kind of just want to
do it because you see Beyonce making
videos and you just want to be like that
but then you know the more I got
involved in the music the happier I was
and I love writing songs and such a
fulfilling feelings to finish one and to
sing my own music and music that’s come
from my own mind isn’t so amazing I love
that side of it so just carried on
writing and experimenting and Here I am
now really I don’t
how do you like to describe the music
that you create I love to just call it
pop music because then it can be
anything everyone tries to put different
genres on it but everybody says
different genre so I’m kind of glad
about that because I didn’t want it to
sound like anything really I guess you
have to hear it and tell me what you
think
what inspires you to write music
whenever I go in the studio I mean most
of the time I don’t haven’t something in
my heads and sometimes I have something
that I’ve been thinking about for a
while and need to write about but a lot
of time I just noticed you didn’t sit
down and try and let my thoughts kind of
take over and just what has been
happening to me or what has caught my
eye whether it’s something on the news
or something a friends told me about or
something I’ve just been going through
that I need to write about I guess I
just kind of let the feeling sink in and
and see what comes out
and what is your writing process like I
usually write in the studio I do
sometimes write on the road or in my
bedroom or in the shower or whatever but
obviously I can’t put down the whole
song when I’m out of the studio so I
tend to get distracted quite easily I
get little ideas written down all the
time in my phone and and on dictaphone
and written lyrics and my notepad and
stuff and all the loads of stuff on my
phone it’s like crazy I don’t even know
what I’m thinking sometimes I read it
back when I get to the studio and can
actually put ideas down usually have an
idea was but that’s all I wanted what I
want it to be about and then the
melodies coming verse really after the
theme and then and then I put the lyrics
to the melody but I think I am quite
melody drawn and sometimes start off of
just the top line and build a track and
music and then some home start for some
music and feeling and then
why don’t you tell us a bit about the
connection between fashion and music at
least for you I love fashion I always
love dressing up and having fun my
outfits and and just playing around with
it obviously music so we’re gonna move
my priority but I think they go together
really well and I think for me in
particular they complement each other I
think my style fashion wise is very
summery and colorful and I think my
music is summery and colorful as well so
I think they can really work well
hand-in-hand
thank you very much thank you
