the character that I’d love to play I
played I think I think Worf was is
probably the coolest character in
science fiction this Klingon character
was a last-minute addition to the Star
Trek The Next Generation cast but he
went on to become a fan favorite hi I’m
Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com
we headed to Comic Con where we spoke
with Michael Dorn about Star Trek and
about his beloved character Worf
thinking about what you can’t control
only wastes energy and creates its own
enemy what drew you to the character of
Worf initially and made it made you say
this guy’s my man
I wasn’t drawn to Worf at first uh it
was it was basically like all of us it
was just another job although I knew
Star Trek and I loved the Klingons it
was just sort of like oh and then as the
character progressed Gene Roddenberry
the first year I asked him I said what
do you what do you want this guy to
because nobody would say no they just
gave me a name on a paper and he said
just make the character whatever you
want it is very difficult for me to
depend on anyone for anything
especially for my life and I just made
the character opposite of everybody else
in the show I just made him like this
sort of like kind of gruff and surly and
you know always mad about something do
not approach me unannounced
especially when I’m eating we were
supposed to be having lunch together
remember
I was hungry how did you go about
developing him you know from year to
year I mean we see quite a growth in the
character I told the writers and
producers to keep him true to who he was
don’t try to change it because that’s
what made him you know really kind of
popular at first is is the way he was
kind of man a few words all action kind
of a guy’s guy you know which means he’s
a little stupid you know he doesn’t
really get stuff you know like he’s
always people would say stuff to him ego
I don’t get it
computer reset environmental controls to
standard Wharf it’s freezing in here you
have already raised the temperature
three times it is too hot
live with it that’s sort of like his
charm and I told him to keep that they
can write other stuff for him but just
keep that part I was just being polite
sir ah commendable lieutenant do you
want to tell us about what it was like
working with that cast that all-star
death well all I can say it was the best
seven years of my life and I
I wouldn’t trade it for anything the
world really I have no desire to leave
there to prize good thank you so much
for your time
my pleasure
