with lyrical themes ranging from
religion and politics to personal
relationships this band is no stranger
to controversy hi my name is Stephanie
welcome to watchmojo.com we spoke to
drummer Shawn drover of Megadeth to
learn about this as well as the
importance of the internet and how it
affected the music industry
I’d like to talk a bit about your latest
album and game what can you tell me
about the musical direction that you
guys took it in there’s some songs that
are really fast and speed metal stuff
kind of more like something that would
be off maybe p cells but in their stuff
that’s a little more mainstream where
it’s it’s still heavy but it’s still a
little more accessible for maybe the
average metal fan of stuff so we cover
kind of a lot of ground musically where
it’s not a one dimensional record that’s
for sure it should make a lot of fans
happy and it has so we’ve gettin
critical acclaim for that record and a
real proud of it
can you tell me a bit about megadeth
span so you know what I you order your
experience is like when you meet them
they’ve stuck through us with thick and
thin for over 25 years now and at god
bless I mean they’re such loyal fans and
they love us and we love them
when fan comes up to you and says you
know your music has touched me so deeply
has changed my life what does that mean
to you it’s kind of hard to absorb that
you know you have like a you know 60
seconds to meet somebody and you’re on
your way to wherever we’re going to
stuff so you know UK kind of taken back
by a little bit and hopefully I always
try to you know take a second and say I
really appreciate it and of course we do
it’s cool that your music can actually
change one person’s life let alone a
whole slew of people so we’re extremely
grateful for that Oh Megan up hasn’t
really been a stranger to controversies
you know partly due to Dave’s lyrics do
you find that difficult to deal with in
the press and stuff no I mean Pete
everybody has their own opinion about
something we’re not hurting anybody
we’re just expressing herself and how we
won express myself and all that stuff’s
not to be taken literally anyway I mean
we’re just writing about it could be
about anything it’s like you’re right
about zombies coming up and ripping your
head off it’s not sound like it’s gonna
happen or you know we don’t we didn’t do
it ourselves it’s just we’re just it’s
just subject matters for metal songs
people need to relax with that stuff man
we’re just out doing our thing we’re
here to entertain people however we see
fit
these days there’s been a lot of talk
about you know social networking and the
internet and how it’s sort of changing
the face of the music industry what is
your opinion on this anything you can do
to get the word out is a good thing you
know say you put something in blog on
your myspace page or your Twitter page
or your website or whatever it’s
automatically worldwide it’s like a free
commercial what sucks about the Internet
to me as the internet piracy all these
kids and grownups too not just kids I
say kids but it’s especially in our
demographic where a lot of music is not
being bought and that hurts the entire
industry the entire industries down it’s
gotta be down at least fifty percent in
sales now that sucks the whole thing
that large they were Napster over ten
years ago he was right you know he
caught a lot of flack for that but you
know he stepped up and said hey this is
wrong and I don’t know if he predicted
what was gonna happen back then it
wasn’t near as bad as it is now but man
it’s really took in a nosedive it kind
of sucks and I hope that that will get
rectified soon
thank you so much welcome
you
