Interview with Killswitch Engage – The Follow Up

these Massachusetts meddlers have gone
through their ups and downs and
consistently put out great records hi
I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with Killswitch Engage
so why don’t we start by having you guys
kind of tell us the origin story of
Killswitch Engage long time ago a long
long long long time ago bunch of bands
crumbled and a new band was born how do
you think the band’s sound has evolved
since we getting much easier especially
in the last couple of hours really tried
to make sure the songs had more of a
flow in a structure whereas in the past
it was everything was kind of just cut
and paste almost you know we really
tried to pay attention more to the
arrangements hopefully we got it right
I’m not sure that’s I guess up to
whoever’s listening to decide
now unless I’m mistaken this is kind of
the band’s 10-year anniversary have you
guys done anything special for that not
really not really that you forgot about
in here let’s get drunk again
I notice that you guys kind of switched
it up on the new album how and why did
you decide to kind of break out of your
comfort zone a whole different
experience you know a struggle in a lot
of ways but I think it turned out cool
because of it I think the main thing was
having somebody else work with us
besides just having the entire thing be
in-house and the majority of the work he
did was really with Howard I guess the
overall arrangements didn’t change too
much but I mean everything here
hopefully is yeah Brenda man Howard
together I think that’s the biggest
change really did you guys decide to do
anything else differently for this new
album didn’t really make too many
conscious decisions about I mean writing
it was pretty easy actually you just
kind of started jamming together and a
couple months later we had a record so
it wasn’t really nobody really had to
you know fight anything too hard I’m not
sure what Howard would say about that if
he had hair on his head he would be
pulling it out a lot of the stops its
track
I believe you have a degree in classical
music how is you know playing in a
symphony different than playing on
Killswitch Engage no today no different
at all everybody else in symphonies
wasted in their plans
concentration level it’s really really
intense in symphonic this like the
microscope is just on everything that’s
played and like this kind of setting is
fun you know you’re out there you having
fun one of the things I think that’s
really the same is just getting a sense
of listening and playing with everybody
around you so that tefilin crosses over
alright thanks very much guys sure thank
you
