Interview with In Flames

these guys are considered the fathers of
melodic death metal hi I’m Rebecca
Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com and
today we’re speaking with in flames
so we always like to start by getting
the origin stories of the band that we
research tell us how enflames originated
the flames was founded in 1992 already
by a couple of guys
no one of them are still in the band in
the beginning there were so many lineup
changes members came away and it wasn’t
really until 98 when I joined we had a
steady lineup for the first time and
really tried to to concentrate on the
band and tour as much as possible and
see how far we could reach
so why don’t you tell us a bit about the
kind of music that you and your
bandmates we’re listening to like as
kids and what has come to really
influence the inflame sound I think most
of us was listening to like the new wave
of British the metal maiden and stuff
like that and also some death metal I
mean in flames since the mix or at least
was a mix of death metal with lots of
melodies
speaking of which you guys are said to
have founded melodic death metal would
you agree with this and if so does it
quit like added pressure on you guys
there was a scene in Gothenburg back
then in the early 90s and Gothenburg is
not a big city and all these guys that
played in these pants we played in
different bands so everyone played with
each other so to speak and we all
listened to the same kind of music yeah
you can say it it’s among other bands
from Gothenburg
when you tell us about the band’s
evolution from album to album it’s that
we were released 10 albums now and if
you listen to the first one and then to
the last one you hear it’s a big
difference of course but if you listen
to them in chronological order you
definitely hear the red line and that
still the melody is combined with
aggressive that’s something that always
will be pre in flames it’s our feeling
for melodies
when you guys are putting together your
songs are you re writing for are you
writing for yourselves or cévennes it’s
for self I mean you can you can’t please
everyone it’s impossible and we try to
write songs that fits in the live
environment since we’re touring band we
want to be able to present all our songs
live as well you know so that’s
something we really consider when we
write songs
