Interview with Hannah Georgas

often referred to as the next big thing
in pop this singer-songwriter is
connecting with fans through her
passionate lyrics hi I’m Rebecca Brayton
and welcome to watchmojo.com and today
we’re speaking with Hannah George’s it’s
like you said this is way too tough
we’ve got no way to make it out there so
we always like to start with kind of
talking about your upbringing and how
you first found music to follow as your
path i was born in Newmarket Ontario and
I was put into piano lessons at a really
young age and my dad also was a crazy
amazing piano player and I think that’s
what sparked my inspiration and then I
got inspired by other artists and was
starting to make my own music on the
piano as soon as I could learn what I
was doing what Tom’s get tough you gotta
don’t know what I’d do without you I
described to us you’re kind of musical
evolution as an artist’s from when you
first begin as you see it I think from
the get-go like being introduced to
music so young with my you know with my
phone with my dad playing music to me
being inspired by other artists and me
being like my mom being pretty adamant
about being serious about the piano and
to realizing that I had a voice but I
could I could sing that inspired me to
like venture out and find other people
that could play with me and
and all throughout high school I i was
searching for bands to play with I think
the course of my journey was just I was
always wanting to be involved in music I
moved to Victoria and I was going to
school for a little bit and the third
year period it was just like okay that’s
enough I can’t go to school anymore I
need to really be serious about what I’m
doing and so I moved from Victoria to
Vancouver and just said made a clean
slate and started pursuing music full
full time and then from there things
kind of flourished and started happening
so you’ve got that song you’ve got a
place called home which is featured in
walmart commercial which I’m sure you’re
talking you talk about often now that
was it wasn’t like you had that song and
they picked it for the commercial you
wrote it specifically as a jingle I did
yeah I think it was last June that I
went out to New York and I played a show
and a music supervisor approached me
after the show and just said hey would
you be interested in writing a jingle
for a commercial and I said yeah like
send me what you got and let’s work on
this so I went back to Vancouver after
the New York show and at the time I was
really heavily into making my record and
I asked Ryan if you’d be into writing
this jingle with me because we were in
the studio and we did it we took like
one night after we were done to write
this 30 second piece of music it was put
up on to youtube and it became like the
eighth month campaign for the back to
school commercial for Walmart
set them up for success for less where
is called save money live better Walmart
people were asking about it and
wondering like you know who’s singing
and and where can I find this song and
there was no song it was just a 30
second piece of music and and so that
kind of pushed pushed myself and Ryan to
go back in and be like k let’s challenge
ourselves to write a song for these
people that are really excited about the
song and so we did that and now it’s a
place called home
so hear me say keeps good name why do
you think it’s more acceptable today for
something for artists to kind of get
their music out in different ways like
you know through commercials on
television placements that kind of thing
just seeing that like just having that
exposure throughout Canada and North End
us people respond to it and people are
just not watching like TV they’re
watching they’re listening to the music
and like that in turn like had people
checking out my stuff and wanting to
find out who the artist was so I think
it’s a great way to for artists to get
exposure and it ended up working for me
so yeah I used Walmart
thank you very much thank you
