this band is changing the face of New
Orleans funk the one to a run of five hi
I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today we’re speaking
with galactic I should have known better
damn repeat everything see how did each
of you individually get into music I
wanted to play horn but my orthodontist
wouldn’t let me so he had all these like
charts of like what that each instrument
does to your mouth they were like well
piano won’t mess up your teeth so went
with piano and then I ended up really
fine and I love when I start playing
bass start playing piano as a kid and I
stuck with it actually so I’m the piano
player
did you grow up listening to and how is
that kind of influenced galactic the one
band that that we all collectively
really dug it was span the meters from
the from New Orleans we all respectively
really like the person that played our
instrument in the band the way that they
played as a band together the rhythm
section was the four of us bass guitar
keyboards and drums I was that’s the
part of the band that’s stayed
consistent even from the earliest days
so the meters being a rhythm section
same instruments in New Orleans and
we’re in New Orleans and we actually
could go see The Meters play during
college we learned a lot of their their
music when we started and was kind of
our beginning point although now that
we’ve been a band for 15 years we really
don’t sound anything like them if you
had to describe your music for someone
who’s never heard it how would you go
about do you it’s brooded in funky New
Orleans music you know that you’re
talking about the brass bands or you’re
talking about funk bands like The Meters
of music that the elder brothers made my
cricket get me on the corner with
the white block graduate we’re young
dudes you grew a playing punk rock I
grew up in the Midwest listen to rock
and roll playing all different kinds of
music so we have maybe a certain
aggressive edge to it when I playing
traditional our old school R&B or old
school funk but we love all that music
and learn so much from it that it’s all
in there modern New Orleans humping I’ve
read that one time and it didn’t offend
me that bad it’s not sexual
thank you very much guys yeah thanks
Revis the Sundown we’ve been trying to
get this to go in that’s literally
cynical Robin does the blaze in other
cities
