Interview with Down with Webster

their music got the attention of such
heavyweights as gene Simmons the roots
and Timbaland hi I’m Rebecca Brayton and
welcome watchmojo.com and today we’re
getting to know down with Webster
I’m Pat I sing and I play guitar in the
band a fun fact about me is I’m not the
same person if I haven’t had a cup of
coffee in the morning
hi I’m Bucky Massa I have rap in front
in the band and a fun fact about me is
that I really really really love kung fu
movies old-school kung fu movies Oh
which is your favorite oh there’s too
many but a drunken master I think is my
favorite this is something I’ve seen you
guys talk about in a lot of interviews
but I also want to address it say the
rap rock label yeah I don’t know that’s
the worst kind of thing to call it
because it’s not rap rock like it’s so
much of everything that like you know we
can’t even call it something we don’t
have a name
there’s nothing inherently wrong with
rap and there’s nothing wrong with rock
but I think when you put them together
you think of like a lot of more like
metal driven bands and I think the
elements of rock that we blend with
hip-hop have to do more with like the
classic rock and the blues and the
soulful rock rather than like the limp
biscuits where it’s just like a guy
yelling at you but we have a lot of like
really dance we have dance elements as
well and like some even like dubstep
elements like there’s just so much a lot
of rap rock doesn’t necessarily talk
about party either they talk about like
hurting people or whatever or you know I
love Rage Against the Machine that’s
more political but we’re definitely a
little more about like have a good time
here the show
and what kind of genres do you like to
experiment with we have been playing
with dubstep but we’ve tried not to
overdo it because we don’t want it to
see my for jumping on a trend but I
can’t act like I don’t go home on my
computer and lovemaking
wow-wow-wow sounds you know we’ve been
listening to that kind of music flow
maybe like two years three years now and
like just recently in the past like you
know a couple of months or so it’s
starting to be a new thing so it’s not
like you know we just heard it too and
we’re trying to like jump on it’s
something that we’ve always loved so
I’ve been looking to a lot of industrial
music lately like going back to the 90s
and listening to like Trent Reznor and
like all that like really heavy but like
electronic music kind of cool I’ve been
listening to a lot of 80s pop as well
just like the crap like you know of
seagulls yeah just you kind of look like
him you should get your trench coat
obviously through your crew you’ve also
had some interest from some huge names
like the roots gene Simmons Timberland
how does that make you feel it’s awesome
it’s one of those things we’re like you
know for example like Tim has been
someone who’s music like I’ve always
listened to like it when I first started
listening to rap it has beats listening
to so it’s super cool to have him go I
think your shit’s awesome too and as far
as gene I remember that was looking like
the craziest thing ever like one day I
just got a phone call and I was at my
day job back in the day and someone
saying gene Simmons is on TV right now
saying that like he needs to find your
band like in Toronto like today and we
went and met him at a bar and it was
really cool you look cool he wanted to
like sign us to a label that he was
starting but it wasn’t really in full
effect yet and we already kind of had
been dancing with Motown so we went up
going that route gene if you’re ever
watching this you’re awesome dude
thank you very much guys no problem
