Donnie Wahlberg of the new kids on the
block about his solo work and reuniting
with his boy band mates put your
flip-flops and shirt short shorts
minister walking on the beach so pretty
ever since you guys broke up a lot of
fans have been waiting for years for a
reunion so when you guys finally decided
to come back together back in 2008 was
the reaction from the fans what you
expected the level of appreciation from
the fans was so much greater than we
ever expected and the level of success
that the tour was was just infinitely
more successful than we ever dreamed
Oh
a lot of our fans are women who grew up
and there were our fans when they were
young and then they grew up and they
really stopped thinking about themselves
they thought about their children and
their jobs and their college whatever
they were doing their joy was put on
hold and somehow when we came back it
kind of reminded them to be young again
and to have fun again and and I want
them to keep doing that I want them to
keep feeling young and happy again and
why not why not a fan it’s hotness see
this is the beauty of new kids look at
these questions Barbara Walters didn’t
come with this many question but here’s
the thing and so many of our fans were
dizzy young girls who people thought
were crazy and silly and they’ve grown
up to become pretty awesome women who do
things like this
so you recently released two solo songs
it’s called rise and grind and the other
one is I got it I was wondering why did
you decide to branch off and make your
own music I can take you there was more
an impulse to put out the songs and I
really didn’t even think of the math
solo songs until one of the guys in the
group called me Joe McIntyre and said
hey man how’s it feel to you know be a
solo artist and I said I’m soul artists
like I didn’t really think of it that
way I wanted to keep engaging the fans
when the torrian that I wanted to keep
having a good time with them the thought
of leaving them alone again and letting
go of the feeling that that gave me that
that sense of reward that I had every
night knowing that you know I was part
of something that brought happiness to
so many people you know I don’t want to
walk away from that and I don’t want the
fans to you know have to go away from
that you have your solo work and you act
and you produce and all of the other new
kids members they also have projects
outside of the new kids I was wondering
how does this affect the relationships
between you guys I don’t think it has a
big effect and if it ever starts to you
know personally I try to stop it from
doing that if I start to have a
communication breakdown with one of the
guys you know I’ll reach out to them if
I’m confused about something or worried
about their energy or think they may be
worried about mine I’ll reach out to
them Joe McIntyre’s I know he’s getting
ready to release his song so I invited
him to my first show in toronto and i
actually bought premiered his song
