the road to this bad success has been a
bumpy one but right now this metal band
is at their prime hi I’m Ricky Tucci and
welcome to watchmojo.com and today I’ll
be speaking with Deftones
hey I’m a cutting him from Deftones I
play drums and I’m cool as what’s up I’m
Frank I play keyboards and samples and
Deftones and Sagittarius I like long
walks on the beach
in terms of genre you guys have been
labeled as alternative metal heavy metal
what do you guys see yourselves as and
how do you keep up not pay attention I
don’t think we’ve ever tried to keep up
I think that’s probably the worst thing
a band can do is try and keep up with
whatever the press is trying to call
whatever it is now keep up with playing
and find your own sound and you’ll find
people who gravitate towards that if
it’s good enough you you’re above all
these little things they try and put you
in these little boxes so I’m as horrible
as that sounds or whatever we’ve never
tried to keep up we’ve just tried to be
make really cool music that he likes I
like and all the rest of us like
together and then hopefully other people
like it yeah and as easy as I sound
that’s really not at times but um we
have a really a lot of we have a lot of
fun trying to make that happen
what do you think has helped lead the
band’s longevity you guys have been
around for a long time I say like just
scooting back to what we just said now I
mean I’m not paying attention too much
for better or for worse
really just doing our own thing you know
I mean came from a time when you know
label we were actually afforded the
opportunity to be nurtured by a label
you know artists development and this is
something that is completely
non-existent at this point we tore
relentlessly in Bam Bam Bam and you know
the goal was to originally you know
hopefully adopt or support would be
self-sufficient we’ve been at it a while
man so we know we’ve had time to to try
to figure things out all the while to
sort of just be into ourselves and then
and uh are you really a Sagittarius
I am
there’s no formula to what we’ve really
started here what we’re doing but I
think we know how to make it work in a
without if breaking us down right now so
we’re having a lot of fun with that it
has a lot to do with trusting in
yourself and taking chance to learn
yourself from the disbandment on matter
numerous times over the years and it’s
always worked for our benefit
thanks so much for your time guys and
have a great show thanks so much
