Interview with death metal band Hate Eternal

there’s only one way to describe this
Bend it’s just rage in a bottle man hi
I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to
watchmojo.com and today our host eric is
speaking with hate eternal
can you give a quick definition of hate
eternal for our viewers who might not
know the ban yet hate eternal it’s it’s
the name it’s exactly what it says you
know it’s just a motion built in a
motion that Eric’s you know Eric’s whole
life experiences and all that and you
know me coming into the band I’m putting
my own my own spin on the drumming I
don’t play the same as Derek but you
know it’s just the same type of death
metal but I’m definitely adding my own
twist to it just anger man
since you’re new to the band could you
let us know kind of how you got in what
that whole process was like I mean right
around the time where I was getting
comfortable enough to play this kind of
stuff skill-wise hated turn was looking
for a drummer so I saw it as a good
opportunity to try and see if I maybe
had a chance with hate eternal and it
took me a while it took me a year and a
half for I actually got the gig
practicing with Eric and getting all the
things properly and then at that point I
think I was ready how did it feel
jumping into like a high-profile act
like that because I mean you’ve been
around the scene a local scene is not
comparable to touring this kind of
touring it’s just a whole different
world man so it was difficult but at the
same time Eric’s been doing it for 20
years and he really helped me you know
work through the motions and all that so
got me pretty comfortable with the whole
situation so how do you feel so then at
this point is the touring life kind of
becoming like home for you or you still
kind of oh no i’ve definitely I’ve
definitely found my niche I figured out
you know my place in the band and I
think I’ve gotten over the fact that I’m
replacing one of the best drummers in
this genre you know it was hard for the
first few tours accepting that trying to
fill those shoes but now you know I’m my
own guy and that’s what I’m trying to
portray rather than the replacement yeah
on fury inflames a lot of people are
saying this is one of the heaviest
albums that has been released did you
have a lot of chance to put your own
staple on the drumming oh yeah Eric gave
me complete you know he just said you
know do whatever you feel is right of
course if it doesn’t fit hate eternal
then we got to work something out but in
terms of my ideas I was all mean you
know total creative process but I do
have to say that the next record will be
a whole other level of drumming I mean I
was nowhere near the player i am now two
years ago just because of the touring it
just gets you into this whole other mode
Titans you up you know gets you playing
way better
what did you come from when you started
playing well it’s odd because a lot of
guys that are my age don’t know bands
like Morgan angel and cannibal Carson
it’s a real shame but luckily I was
lucky enough to to dive into that kind
of music right off the bat I you know my
influences or morbid angel Slayer the
old stuff and then I progress with time
and learn all the other stuff so I went
through the whole ladder of learning and
it’s important to know the old stuff as
well as all than you
you feel it some of the the younger
bands that are making new music could
benefit from looking back at their roots
or do you think it’s kind of more
creative sometimes to just do what what
is to be done I think creativity is your
own thing I mean you know whichever way
you want to apply your your art the
thing with bands nowadays is like
they’re trying to fall into a niche and
it’s starting to become a thing where
there’s so many bands that sound the
same and that’s all because they’re
trying to be that same type of genre not
knowing other genres and where those
genres came from so to explore would
probably benefit the genre itself really
well yeah
cool man thanks a lot for meeting us
dude
