Interview With Cute Is What We Aim For

I’m a shunt and I’m Dave we are from
keys are waiting for that’s it
cute is what we aim for was a pop-punk
band out of buffalo new york after
undergoing numerous lineup changes over
the years the band has finally decided
to call it quits after an almost
five-year career together hi I’m Rebecca
Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com our
host Stephanie got to catch up with
Shawn today from the band in happier
times before the release of what was
ultimately their final album together so
I just like to know how is rotation
different from your previous record I’ve
heard that sort of the general consensus
between the band is that the main theme
is changed so what changes specifically
and what kind of personal experiences
inspired this record I think we we wrote
the album and went about attacking it a
lot differently than the first ones
personal change is just the experience
of 18 22 21 and the things you learn
from that this means facing did you guys
feel any pressure to live up to your
first record the success of it not
pressure it’s just we would like to live
up to it that’d be great well did you
feel like you had perhaps a conscious
decision to make it different from the
first one or anything like that I think
as musicians um the thing is to always
keep innovating and trying to keep move
moving forward by the changing your
sound or you look or whatever it is so I
think that’s just something innate in
every person who’s trying to be creative
well you guys are fairly new band you
started in 2005 but your debut which
came out a year later it did fairly well
so was it something that you guys were
expecting and how did you sort of cope
with that Fame at such a young age you
guys were still teenagers we we dealt
with it through through lineup changes
and just people learning and focusing on
on an and understanding that this is
like a real job yeah you know we could
buy houses cats
can you describe a bit about the
collaborative process like how does each
person sort of contribute to the music
making process what’s interesting is
that a Jeff and Dave usually work no I
mean they read the music it’s
interesting and it was a learning
experience it took me a little while to
warm up to writing with Dave because I
wasn’t sure what he wanted to do as a
songwriter and stuff and I wasn’t sure
if I was good enough and I let Jess so
big
what am I
we definitely bring like a distinct like
aspect you know Jeff’s really good at
writing riffs Sean totally has the
lyrics and melody I’m locked down and
then I just I you know I just come shine
or polished and do what I do so like you
know all together like it makes it makes
a very like cohesive unit would you guys
do to sort of stay cute or stay cool I
don’t know I don’t know what we do to
keep it hair straighteners for some of
the guys
Jeff is as a hair straightener he does
peanut eminem’s are always good yeah
they keep me in shape mm-hmm beer love
movies be your love movies peanut M&Ms
and what was awesome hair straighteners
yeah yeah hey guess what that’s like
five choices thank you so much oh thank
you
