Interview With Crash Parallel

a social conscience and great tunes this
band is going places hi I’m Rebecca
Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com and
today I got to sit down with Tim and dan
from crash parallel to talk about social
change and the music industry makes me
strange the battle
and the wars we wage how did crash
parallel get together Tim and I go way
back we played together in high school
after high school we went our separate
ways and I got into producing music Tim
got into doing film and eventually
started writing these songs kind of folk
songs so we just started a couple songs
at a time and then eventually we had a
good five or six songs and then we
thought maybe we should get a band
together and called upon our old high
school friends and started building a
band
at first I was just trying to do it you
know was fun i asked him if he would
record a few songs with me and it took
off we really liked it and i was the
beginning of crash grammar now you guys
kind of started on your own and then
signed up with sony were you at all
reticent to join a big label i think
what it was is that when we met the
people and what they you know what they
were telling us they could do for us
it’s really where we wanted to have
resources is the hardest part right you
need people who can help you get across
the country any people who can set that
up so for us it made sense I think a big
fear for people they think of major
labels is that they may change your
sound a bit and for us we didn’t have
that fear because our record was already
written and recorded so we already had
the product everybody knew what they
were getting
and the car
I heard you guys specifically you Tim
you’d like to have more of a stamp on
the artistic side of things as well why
do you want to keep that control my
favorite thing is buying records seeing
the whole package when we’re trying to
tell a story with the whole record I
need to tell the story with the artwork
and I want to tell the story with you
know the way the lyrics are written and
I want the t-shirts to say something
about the record and I want you know the
backdrops and the lights and the way we
present ourselves to always kind of give
you an idea of what crash grill is so
you know for me that’s just kind of part
of part of creating our image and part
of getting our message across to people
the lyrics for the world we know our
little deeper than your typical pop
lyrics do you want to just tell us about
the lyric process kind of about the the
state of the world at the time there was
a lot going on the war had just started
there was a lot of natural disasters
going on and I just kind of felt like
there was this you know downward spiral
going on and we weren’t making any
changes everyone was just kind of trying
to deal with it song sort of started
just from an awareness perspective you
know
all the stuff i right lyrically is very
personal I think you have to have a
message in it for me I have to have a
message in it for you know for me to
sing it with the kind of passion I want
to sing
you
