Interview with Comedian Danny Hoch

hi welcome to watchmojo.com I’m your
host Ashley and today we get to speak to
danny hawk go look that up the creative
genius behind the comedic show taking
over your this kit Ryan station on their
own sculptures and then they sprinkle
ball bearings on top to acknowledge the
industrial history of the neighborhood
you tell us a little bit about your
latest one-man show it’s a really
hilarious but really serious at the same
time we ride through modern day New York
City around the issues of gentrification
gentrification meaning people come and
take over a neighborhood and the
neighborhood changes within five or ten
years and you know cafes and fancy
restaurants start popping up it’s
happening in New York City at a really
violent rate and I play a whole bunch of
different characters that are dealing
with this issue as best as they can some
of them are making a lot of money some
of them are getting kicked out of their
apartment some of them just got out of
prison and they don’t recognize their
neighborhood the character I’m gonna
tell you about him he’s he’s a
revolutionary militant gangsta rapper
from Brooklyn New York and I’m him and
his people are getting priced out of
their neighborhood because of our
gentrification he essentially discloses
his secret plan to an audience about how
him and his posse are moving to Canada
what happens to human beings related to
this gentrification is absurdly
hilarious and also absurdly tragic at
the same time I game artists against
gentrification a storefront to do there
are they take it in a heartbeat come on
a free space with a 10-year lease to
roll around naked on their paint brushes
or whatever they do and on the corner
there’s a bakery with organic muffins
and Fairtrade espresso I’m a
fourth-generation New Yorker outlet I’ve
lived there all my life not just my city
but my neighborhood has changed
dramatically to the point where I don’t
even recognize my own neighborhood and I
still live there but this is really
what’s been in my face for the last 20
years taking over go check it out
